Hello!

I’m debating having a flu jab this year. I get one every year and have not had the flu for a while. Just wondering if I should keep getting it or not?

  • The flu vaccination is important for people at severe risk of illness of the flu. Every year, flu vaccination prevents illnesses, medical visits, hospitalizations, and deaths. Flu vaccination also is an important preventive tool for people with chronic health conditions. For example flu vaccination has been associated with lower rates of some cardiac events among in people with heart disease.

  • Only my youngest gets a flu shot in our family because she belongs in the high risk group.

  • I’ve never had a flu shot, but not sure whether to have it this year with the coronavirus situation.

  • Get advice from your GP as they also know your medical history.

  • People in high risk groups are usually advised to get a flu vaccination.

  • I’d definitely recommend it if you are caring for little ones. I have one every year as I’m an asthmatic, as it can reduce the severity and duration of the flu if you do get it.

  • it depends on your lifestyle. if you will be busy or caring for others, then consider getting one

  • It stops you from getting a serious case of the flu.
Very important for elderly people or people with low immunity

  • I try to get mine every year. I still actually need to do it. Thanks for the remind before its too late and winter will pass.

  • it can only protect against certain strains of flu. but recommended to infants and the elderly. I had it once and that was the year I got the flu!

  • Keep it up its always better preventing something if you can. The last thing anyone needs is to get sick if they have kids to take care of.

  • I never got a jab in my all life. It’s very difficult that I get sick. One friend of mine gets the flu jab every year, but she suffers asthma, and in that case it’s really recommended.

  • If you feel the need to get a jab, then go ahead. A lot of people say the shot is useless because they got the flu anyway… The shot isn’t going to stop you getting the flu. It will just mean you will get over it quicker because your body already has the antibodies.

  • I would (and I have). I had it when pregnant 5 years ago and then didn’t bother and got the flu last year and it was awful (especially when looking after a 3 year old) I’ve had it this year and my teen have too as they are off to NZ and any travel (even commuting to work) puts you at risk being in a confined space with others who have the flu virus. It’s supposed to be a bad year this year – that’s why the vaccination was late coming out as they changed 2 of the 3 strains based on the bad flu season the Northern Hemisphere has just had.

  • It is such a personal decision, with lots of benefits.
