Hello!

My child is lactose intolerance (Dairy products and Milk solids). Does anyone have any good lunch box ideas for them?

  • You could find dairy free alternatives if you were looking for yoghurts or cheeses. Otherwise generally the best foods would be fruit and veg, and something to give sustained energy – wholemeal/wholegrain items.

  • My daughter has a diary intolerance too, she’s also vegetarian and eats mostly gluten free. She has every day coconut yoghurt in her lunchbox, she loves a boiled egg, eats vegan cheese, vegetarian sausages, seeded gluten free bread with vegemite, she loves fruits and often his lentil chips or some papadums in her lunchbox.
Now a’days it’s easy to get diary free products, just read the labels

  • Muesli bars, soy products (even soy cheese and soy cream cheese alternatives for sandwiches),

  • Home made sushi and homemade bread, that way you know exactly what’s in the bread

  • Some dry biscuits have milk in them so if you are planning on using bought ones check the labels carefully.

  • sultananas ,carrot, cucumber, cherry tomato blanched broccoli or cauliflour baked beans spagetthi

    things on sandwiches
    vegemite
    mustard pickle
    ham
    chicken \

she could also take dinner sort of items like mini meat balls
    lasagne
    sausages
    marinated chicken etc

  • Thanks all for the awsome ideas will have to try this for my daughter jazmine she will love all these yummy new way to have these foods

  • I would just make sure he has plenty of fruit and vegetables that he can snack on.
You can also make skinny banana muffins, oatmeal cookie bars, almond cookies.
Check out google that would come up with many ideas I should think :)

  • My son is lactose intolerant, so i pack him with loads of fresh fruit and vege’s. I make up carrot, capsicum and cucumber sticks and olives. I then make up sultana and dried fruit combo’s of his favorites. I mix up fresh fruit, with the occassional fruit tubs from the supermarket. You can now purchase refillable pouches, so you can make your own smoothie with suitable milks that your child can have and add favorite fruits to them, freeze and they are ready as a nice treat at lunch time. Other days, I send a selection of cold meats and dry biscuits that he can eat (however if you are worried about the ingredients you could make your own crackers with the ingredients you know your child can eat) and then it is like having a picnic in a lunch box.
It does get easier, because they do get to know what is okay for them and what is not. They really dont need the packaged foods, but to give them a little every now and again that is suitable then they dont think they are missing out and it becomes an extra special treat for being good at school.

  • A yummy treat is to make are coconut and date balls. It’s so easy and completely delicious. Take 2 cups of desiccated coconut and 2 cups of pitted dates (I like Medjool dates best) and put them in the food processor and blend until smooth. Then just use your hands to roll little balls and roll in coconut to finish. I find that they’re tastiest if eaten cooled in the fridge.
My little guy LOVES these and so does my hubby.

Note: It can take up to 5 minutes of blending to get it to combine properly and sometimes a little splash of water might be needed to help it blend.

  • Lots of veggies – dips like hummus – and fruit.

  • Yeah Jazmine loves carrot and cucumber sticks and tomatoes aswell so there is heaps of ideas to do salads just need to change it around so she doesn’t get bored of it

  • nuttelex (can’t spell it) is awesome and vegie sticks like carrot and celery are great.

  • Once you find a bread and butter which is good for their allergies then you can make sandwiches. Cut up pieces of fruit and veggies. Dips for veggies. raisins, etc.

  • Yeah I use a table lands dairy free butter and those ideas sound good I want to try and mix her lunches up instead of just a jam or vegemite sandwhich
