Hello!

Hi, I’m really getting tired of my scalp being so itchy and my hair falling out. I gave birth 4 and a half months ago and it seems I got the worst end of after birth problems. It all started really about 1 month ago. I’ve tried “head and shoulders” dandruff shampoo and conditioner, but my hair is super frizzy and feels like straw. I’ve also got itchy skin. What can I try to stop the itchiness of my scalp and stop my hair from falling out?

  • Switch to natural shampoos and conditioners, other ones are too harsh and strip your oils.

  • Change shampoo again, and look at how often you are washing your hair. Maybe speak to a trusted hair dresser.

  • A pharmacists might be able to help you.

  • Perhaps you could give tea tree shampoo a try. You can buy it from supermarkets.

  • Try changing your shampoo and conditioner. Dandruff might not be the problem. It could just be dryness seeing as your skin and scalp are itchy. Try a moisturising shampoo and conditioner and a very mild skin wash. Then apply moisturiser. Hope you find some relief soon

  • i hope that this has settled down for you now

  • I had the same problem, I had tried everything at the chemist with no luck. A friend suggested vinegar & it worked! I mixed 1pt vinegar to 2pts water, tied my hair up in a bun & sponged the mix on to my scalp & roots (avoiding the rest of my hair). I left it for 10mins then washed as usual. I did it every 3rd day for 9 days. My hair was a bit dry for a while but it fixed the itchy scalp :)

  • There was an ad on tv for coco scalp (I think that’s what it’s called) sold at pharmacies and for dry itchy scalps

  • I used coal tar shampoo to settle my scalp & I had to stop having my hair coloured as the chemicals irritated my scalp.

  • you can get a script from your doctor, I had a skin specialist who recommended good shampoo, It was a dark syrupy colour and smelt almost Tar’ryish, I cannot remember the name sorry, but in all honest the only thing that worked for me was Head and shoulders, now if i get really greasy hair or really sweaty then it itches like crazy.
Hair loss after a baby is perfectly natural.

  • Lush shampoo bars are wonderful. Try “soak and float”. They mail order if you’re not near a store.

  • Try coconut oil. Use it as a hair mask…you will need to wash twice after but it is usually so good for things like this

  • I find an oil treatment works best! As for hair falling out I have with all 4 of my pregnancies and after my 4th Bub who is 5 months old it seems it’s worse and its so thin. I wash only once a week and do the oil treatment until my hormones get back to normal it usually lasts till they are about 1 year old and that’s when I give up breastfeeding so that might be why :)

  • I get an itchy scalp too. Im Allergic to lots of soaps shampoos too. Real sensitive skin. I use mayonnaise in my hair the one with egg added. It keeps my hair and scalp itch free. Put it in and wash it out after twenty minutes. I thought no way but i gave up trying heaps of other stuff as id always break out more
