Hello!

We booked a 1 room studio [ resort style] at Labrador and it turned out to be a state of the art massive 1 bedroom apartment with a huge lounge room/ dining room, large kitchen etc. It was wonderful!. Now we are in Byron Bay and booked an apartment. Ok it has a queen bed and air con but it is about one tenth of the size of the one we had in Labrador. A small motel room is more like it and a lot more expensive than the Labrador one. lol!!!

  • Apartments will vary from building to building. Some may be glamourous and others not so much. Pricing can vary and doesn’t always reflect facilities. If you travel on weekends or peak holiday times prices can shoot through the roof – even for horrible places.

  • Aw you were really lucky with the one at Labrador !

  • It’s really an open term with no minimum or uniform standards.

  • I would think that if it has a kitchen with cooking facilities then I’d consider that an apartment.

  • Ah yes, the creativity of online advertising. If they have the gift of the gab, they can make something drab sound absolutely fab

  • Also; look for seasons and times when these places are cheaper. And; look for free night deals too. We love these deals, it takes some research but you can find them.

  • it depends on the area. in the cities, there are heaps of places to stay so they are better quality and cheaper than the smaller towns. i agree, byron is more laid back and touristy, backpackers so there would not be a lot of business for other places.

  • The difference in cost could be due in part to the location. Byron Bay is a known tourist destination, very popular and in demand, hence a higher rate. Add to that, some people are just greedier then others and are charging more just because of that

  • Thank you..

  • It can also depend on location. It does vary from place to place and I always check accommodation reviews on trip advisor for the traveller photos and not just the management photos.

  • Thanks for these answers. We had the very best deal at Labrador considering it was the long week end and a public holiday to boot! We will be going back there for sure! The place is called Sandcastles on the Broadwater.

  • Be careful when booking as it can be anything from what the first you stayed at( luxuary) to a dogey little room with a shower and tv. I ussually look for one that contain a kitchenette when booking(not just a kettle, microwave and toaster.).

  • It is my understanding that a holiday apartment should have kitchen facilities.
It sounds as though you got a really good deal at Labrador. Prices vary considerably between different towns/areas. Did you book them via a motor organisation or travel agent? If so I suggest you speak to them about it as if it doesn’t meet their standards they will probably stop recommending it. Motoring Organisations definitely follow up complaints. Well, SA does anyway.
