Hello!

If a dog I minded had fleas, will they be in our carpet?? If so, how long will they live? It was only three days, and I pulled nine fleas off him, and put a pipette on him from Vet. Just wondering if they will lay dormant in my carpet?

  • I would prefer a steam clean above a bug bomb.

  • But bomb your house or steam clean your carpets. First option would be best bet. Make sure to wash their bedding too and treat all pets in your home to prevent re infestation

  • You can get bug bomb sprays from the supermarket. They’re great for killing all creepy crawlies and not all that expensive

  • thanks posters – have booked in carpet clean for next week, tried a bomb, it is probably all in my head, but I feel so itchy LOL

  • If you can I would get a flea bomb pack from the supermarket and set them off before leaving the house. Fleas can breed in the carpet.

  • As the other mums have said here, I’d probably recommend a flea bomb. I like the sound of eucalyptus leaves though.

  • You gals are awesome – I have sent my son out to grab some eucalyptus leaves!!

  • I agree in having a look at the supermarkets.

  • Hope you had success with the flea extermination. google has some wonderful natural treatments as well and mom85518 is spot on with Eucalyptus leaves, leaves placed under dogs bedding is also a good tip.

  • Great responses from moms yet again ..here are two sites that may also help.. wishing you all the very best. :-)

  • Eucalypt gum leaves are a natural flea repellent . It may sound weird but if you live in an area where gum trees grow, go and collect several handfuls of fresh leaves and scatter around your house particularly on the carpets. Leave for a week or so and brush up.

  • Use a flea bomb in the morning and then don’t go back till the arvo, they will be all dead

  • I would definitely recommend flea bombs but remember to bomb the house a few days to weeks apart to make sure that you get all the stages of the fleas life. Goof luck.

  • I wonder if the same methods would work for spiders. I hope so because I know a house which is about to be “bombed” because of them. Dogs can catch fleas from other dogs, cats seem to get them up then they drop off. They could also be in your soil outside. A lady I know discovered they were in her soil outside as she got bitten out there, then saw them jumping on her. I am not sure what she treated the soil with. She has always been very careful what she uses, inside and out. If you have cats in your area, especially strays, it increases the risk of your pets getting fleas. It is important to check your pets regularly. There are preparations you can treat them with to stop your pet being bitten also it kills eggs on your pet. I would ring your vet and ask the safest way to eliminate them from your house.

  • have a look in woolies. there are flea treatments that are safe to use around the home. just read labels.
