  • We go to the butcher for meat and fruit shops for fruit and veg and avoid the big shops at coles and woolies

  • Not sure about percentages, but quite a lot is fresh food.

  • Mostly fresh food if I can however a lot of items are packaged and it’s like the devil you know. There are some items that one has to get that are not fresh.

  • 90% fresh and 10% packaged. I’d love it to be 100% fresh but I don’t think that’s possible – would have to make my own bread and milk my own cow!

  • We buy a

  • I think it is good to have both and I need fresh and processed . For example, have a good diet , you need to have some balance of fresh fruits and vegetables ( especially for cooking ). However you still need convenient foods such as cans of baked beans and spaghetti because that is my favourite for breakfast on toast . Also some recipes require you to purchase a particular type of ingredient and buying the wrong item will ruin the cooking . So really you do need both .

  • not sure of ratio but mainly most of it is fresh

  • Probably 90% is fresh.

  • We’ve now changed the way we eat so we only eat vegetables, fruit, meat. About 1% packaged food (coconut oil, dried organic figs/apricots, olive oil, a few cleaning items)

  • I think that there are some packaged food that you can’t avoid, like cereal, tea, coffee and convenient packaged food like frozen vegies, pasta etc.

I try to make things like cakes and biscuits from scratch and try not to buy packaged meals but sometimes, you do need to have that stuff in the fridge/ freezer.

  • The markets sell cheap boxes of fruit and vegies at the close of business on Sundays and you can get a box full of fruit and vegies for a good budget price and save $$$$

  • Breads/ wraps, fruit and veg, meat (sausages, mince, chicken breast, fish, salmon, steak, diced meat – not all every week, I change it up), milk, pastas, cereals (usually weetbix and nurtigrain), sparkling water, poppers (school time only), long life custard, yogurt, cheese, eggs, I make school snacks like muesli bars etc so I don’t buy pre pack school snacks. I buy cat food each week.
I also buy cleaning items when needed like wash powder, stain remover, soaker, loo roll. Then bathroom items. These are more every 2 to 3 weeks though. I shop between ALDI and Coles. My budget is $300. I spend about $150-$170 each week on groceries. I have $30 for fuel and the rest goes on layby payments, any school things that might pop up like raffle tickets, and extra to keep for the week should I run out of break, milk and fruit.

  • Thank you for your comments

  • Mostly fresh with minimal cans and frozen goods.

  • I would SAY 25% FREASH FRUIT AND VEGGIES, 15 % Dairy, 15 % package meal bases, 10% tins eg tuna, tomatoes, coconut creams, spices cake mixes etc. 5% juices, soft drinks. 10% bakery goods,10% cleaning goods, toilet papers, tissues, newspapers and magazines etc. 5% biscuits, saladas, rice cakes etc.
