  • It will probably take a few weeks for his stomach to get used to the new solids. I’d try giving things like pear to soften up his stools.

  • A dr told me up to 10 days is “normal”

  • go to the doctor. and give them doculax or something

  • First of all it’s important to look to the consistency of your child’s poo and how your child’s belly feels. Also does your child strain when passing the stool ?
When the poo is too hard / compact you have to be careful that when you add fiber, you add water as well. Adding fiber without adding water will have the opposite effect.
It never harms to do belly massages at the same time: clockwise around the bellybutton.
When you have concerns, seek the opinion of your Gp or nurse.

  • I had something similar happen to my daughter and was told by the GP to try prunes or pears. Try and stay clear of bananas as this will bind him up more.

  • That’s too long for a 6 month old not to go to the toilet. Their first foods should be fruit purees only as fruit is easier to digest. Think Apples, pears, watermelon and water it down. If they are on solids then they should also be having a little bit of water throughout the day. You can get coloxil drops over the counter for babies, if they dont go within the day of having some then take them to a doctor.

  • For a 6 month old they should be going at least every 1-2 days. Their first purees should be fruit only then start matching up with veggies. Fruits are less harsh and condensed on the stomach. I wouldn’t be worried about meat at this age until their bowels regulate.

  • I was recommended “fruits and veg that start with P” – pears, prunes, pumpkin etc. Always worked like a charm (even now at 17 months).

  • two prunes per day should stop that

  • one of my kids had the same issue, i found when i made one of her meals apple puree, on its own it helped her go. Even years later when she has they issue ( she is now 5 ) I still give it to her but a larger amount and it works well most of the time. You just have to find the fruit that works on your kid… Goodluck..

  • When my kids had a problem like this , the first thing I think of is they haven’t had enough fruits and / or vegies in their diet that week. So I give them a banana and some soft fruits, and it seems to do the trick . Also at meal time , add some more vegies as well as I think sometimes we give them meat , but never think how vegies are just as important in a healthy meal .

  • yes try more fruit. the amount of poos will settle down now when they eat solids.

  • Boil some water with dried prunes inside. Let it cool down and give it to the child in small spoons. With my daughter it functioned.

  • Try fresh orange juice, watered down to about 50/50. This worked for mine when they were young!

  • Try some stewed prunes (boil in water till very soft) or pear puree, it always worked the trick with my little one.
