Hello!

I am visiting a family member in intensive care and they are sedated and I need some advice on what to say to them as I am running out of things to say.

  • just talk about your day, memories of them, sights, sounds and smells, describe your garden, cd’s, a bunch of stuff – all the best

  • I hope they’re all better now! If you’re still visiting or ever go again, you can also read them some newspaper or magazine articles, or ask if you can read them a funny short story. Take a quick video of family or friends saying a hello and play them that. Listen their mood by telling them something funny you saw at hospital cafeteria. If they’re unconscious playing music is really good too.

  • sorry that you are going through this. some great tips here.

  • I would share all the family news, world news, celebrity news. I would read from magazines. I don’t think I would struggle :)

  • Just knowing you are there would be a comfort to them, talk about the good times you have had in the past and tell them how much you love them.

  • Just tell them how much you love them,& think of a happy time in your past.

  • I would talk about what you have been doing. Or even take a news papaer and read positive stories

  • Being present is enough – holding a hand. Knowing you are there is comforting.

  • I would do everything you would normally talk to them about eg whats going on with the kids and family life, Talk to them about whats in the newspaper or magazine even read it to them if that helps pass time and keep you busy while with them. They would be happy just knowing you are there.
