  • We love going to street fairs.

  • Almost free is a bus or train ride to the beach. The kids will love it and never get sick of it. You can take the children into a big department store toy section and let them look around for hours. Make sure they are aware they are just looking today. You will get better ideas of what they would like for birthdays and Christmas. I always take my grandchildren shopping for their birthdays and Christmas. I set a money limit to spend and they have a ball working out what they can squeeze in for that amount, and they get what they want! Taking them with a few friends to the park with bat and ball or kites is free and they love sharing with their friends. My children used to spend a lot of time climbing trees. Making tree houses. Sad that people are chopping down all the big trees. You can go into town alone and window shop. Go to weekend markets they always have stalls where there are free food samples. love to all Lyn

  • My area is awesome for free family activities. They throw free family days at a local park with free rides and food and stuff.

Follow new housing estates on facebook. They often put on family days to bring in families to check out display houses and stuff with free rides and food.

We recently went to the free RACV family fun day. That waa pretty great. We went to the hawthorn family fun day which was a gold coin donation and had a ball. Met all the players etc

The local library always has activities for kids running.

Just gotta keep your eye out for opportunities.

  • Always do a search on the internet for free events in your area. Also Buggybuddys is a great site that has some great info. We have been to so many kid friendly events with fireworks and activites. Check your local council as well as surrounding ones.

  • I have filled up the calendar with free festivals. :)

  • I love festivals that are free to attend,so much fun!

  • Playground, parks, picnics, bush walks, beach walks, library, local museum/ art galleries, visit botanic gardens, stroll the Harbour bridge, bake a bread/cake, invite kids over for a playdate / sleepover, create a dance party, go outside with paint, canvas and ezel and express your artistic talents with all your family members (I can assure you it’s bonding and fun!), fly a kite, go roller skating on the street, ride a scooter or a bike, etc

  • The local library and museum often have school holiday activities. Local parks are free and fun. The beach. Even doing things at home

  • Festivals are great but if your family decides they want food from the food stalls or other trinkets on sale then they are no longer free!

  • Park/run sounds interesting for the family – will look into this activity.

  • Some shopping centres have a variety of free activities during school holidays.
Some have different things every day. The is one Tennis Coaching Group that does a free 3 hour session each school holidays in my area.
Some churches have free youth programs which run different activities

  • 1) The local council (via library) seems to put on lots of activities, especially for the holidays, and they are wonderful events – from free movies, to craft, board games and how to do cartooning workshops etc.
    2) And of course the weekly parkrun (check out the Australia parkrun website to find your local one) where you can walk/run with your family and friends for 5km every Saturday and earn points to the free T-shirt.
    3) Cycle/walking groups do free “events” too if there are any in your area.

  • Depends where you’re from, but as a family we love going to events like Skyfire, Museums and Art Galleries with exhibitions, balloon festivals.
