  • The rules on this are constantly changing. I’d contact KidSafe in your state.

  • Check your local road safety operater such as Roads and Maritime services or VicRoads as each state has different legislation. You should also look at the car seat and they have indicators too.

  • Some babies are just too long to stay facing to the rear for as long as recommended. The have their knees bent and their feet up against your normal car seat. Also if your baby vomits he/she can choke if laying flat. If you have them facing the front and they start making strange noises you can flick your rear vision mirror very quickly, check appearance and stop if necessary. Had the baby not been visible it could well have been too late. That is one reason for having a baby monitor in their bedroom. They they start making strange coughing or similar noises you hopefully will hear them and rush to their room. I know one baby who almost choked on his own vomit as he was on his back. Whey they are toddler size and roll onto their backs if they vomit it can run out of the side of their mouth. As soon as your baby is old enough train him/her a hat mainly to protect eyes. Not only do you often have a distressed baby with sun or glare in their eyes, it can cause scarring in the eyes. Next step is to encourage them to wear sunglasses in the car. These are recommendations from an opthalmologist. I have scarring in my eyes due to the fact that I wasn’t trained to wear sunglasses early enough.

  • I had my first DD in the capsule until she was about 6 month old, than we moved her to a bigger car seat, by the way while she was in the capsule she used to cry a lot and once she was in the bigger car seat she started to enjoy going out.

  • I think they’re meant to be rear facing till one but yiu can get 6 month plus seats that face both ways. Overseas has till 15/18 months read facing in we places. So you don’t have to forward face just because they turn over one

  • Hi there. :) Most babies grow out of their capsules between 6-12 months, around 70cm or 9kg. :) If you purchase a convertible seat, it faces the rear for the first 12 or so months, then when your child is past the first strap height, you can turn them around to face the front up until around 4 years old. Hope this helps. :)

  • You can get a reversible, rear facing seat that they can remain rear facing in upto 1 year of age and then turn the seat around so they are forward facing. Most seats of this kind on the market cater to up to 4 yrs of age.

  • They can graduate to a bigger car seat when they have reached the shoulder markers in the capsule, you can graduate them to a rear facing car seat! :-)
