Hello!

What is better? Christmas Stockings at the end of your bed? Or Santa Presents under the Christmas Tree? Or is both an overkill?

  • We never did Xmas stockings, just presents under the Xmas tree

  • We do stockings – it sort of frames the kids’ expectations in terms of size, quantity of presents etc.

  • My kids had Santa presents at the end of their beds in stockings and they could open them asap. The presents from us were under the tree and we all sat together to open them

  • We do both. Santa stocking fillers are small things though. The santa present is a little bigger but not huge either.

  • up to you. i have the stockings as well and it is great to be able to give them hairbands or little things for stockings. just an extra small treat :)

  • I think Christmas stockings are great for smaller items and if you have multiple gifts you can get stockings anywhere and then stuff it with other items. It can range from small stuff toys, , socks , chocolates and sweets , etc , anything you can stuff it with . A friend of mine did that for many years for my kids and when she stopped the routine it strange and the kids said ” no stocking this year “? So to me it depends on how you want to give the gift it is just another form of packaging to me .

  • We’ve always done both. The ones at the end of the bed are from Santa and they can open them as soon as they wake. The ones under the tree are from us and they have to wait to open them as a family

  • I don’t think both is an overkill. Santa stocking gifts are generally small anyway.

  • We’ve only ever just done presents under the tree. We hang Christmas stockings, but they are purely decorative.

  • We only do Christmas Stocking at the end of the bed. Under the tree is kept for presents from family and friends who have sent presents to us as we will not be seeing them on Christmas Day. Even though its well know we are “Santa”, the tradition is fun an it gives us a slighter later awakening on Christmas Day.

  • We do both every year.
Santa stockings hang above the fire place with lollies & a small gift in them.
We put a few gifts under the tree & the rest of the presents are in Christmas sacks that are hidden until Christmas morning & we put them in the living area.
To many presents under the tree for a month take up to much room & are to tempting for little fingers.

  • Writing these ideas down thank you

  • We always had family presents under the tree, santa presents in our room all pretty, and our stockings had lollies/ chocolate coins in them.

  • Awesome thanks its good to find out what other mums do!

  • We’ve always done little Santa presents in the stocking with presents from family under the tree. I never really though too much about it until someone mentioned that they always do small presents from Santa because when kids discuss what they got from Christmas kids whose parent’s don’t have much money will wonder why Santa only gave them a new book and some underwear while their friend got an XBox. I know Christmas isn’t about presents anyhow but that really struck a chord with me so now I’m an advocate for stocking gifts from Santa, tree presents from family.
