Hello!

I have a 3 month old daughter and everyone keeps asking when we are getting her ears pierced! Before she was born we thought we would do it young but now we’re unsure….would love your recommendations and pros and cons for doing it early…thanks!

  • I’ve never been asked this question and my eldest is now 7. I’m leaving the choice up to her. We have discussed it but she’s not that interested at the moment so I will leave the choice up to her

  • It might be good while young and you would have to make sure they don’t get infected and don’t get caught on anything.

  • When ever you want. Earrings are lovely on babies. Yes it’s pain for a little bit. Get two to do ears at same time.

  • I have waited until my girls have asked asked for them. My first got them done at 4.5yrs and my other daughter has just turned 6 and asked the other day.

  • I think when they old enough to understand & look after

  • I think when they are old enough to choose for themselves. That’s the best time.

  • We decided to wait until our daughter decided & finally she did at 9yrs old! Personally I think 3mths is too young & a lot of places will not do babies under 12mths. However a few friends have said it is far easier when they are little as they don’t play with them.

  • you should listen to you gut and do it when you’re ready

  • I was 18 when I had mine done, had no interest before then. I decided to let my daughter get hers done when she started high school. She had been asking before this but when she was sitting in the chair, changed her mind because she was scared. Two years on and she is contemplating it again. I want our other daughter to wait until high school as well. Old enough to make up her own mind, and look after them properly herself.

  • I’m going to let my daughter get her ears pierced when she asks me for it, she is only 7 months old so we are a little way off :)

  • i would wait until she is 6 or 7 and ask her -if she is not already bugging you about it.
The pros- they look cute you can coordinate with her clothing etc
The cons – being sensitive to base metal or silver (like me) which will leave her with red swollen painful ears. she is more likely to get them caught on her fingers, brushes, combs ect. Not to mention the sound and pain of having them put in by mum and dad.

  • My daughter got hers done for her 10th birthday.

  • I waited until my daughter was two and she actually was excited, no dramas at all!

  • Personally I’m against the idea of piercing the ears of a baby. I was seven when I was allowed to get mine done and fully understood the concept that it would hurt and that I had to clean them a couple of times a day to stop infection.

That said though, it’s a parental decision and you shouldn’t be made to feel badly if that’s what you decide to do.

  • Mine were done at 2 years old. Really it’s up to you.
