Hello!

I’ve tried everything. I’m sick of using cleaners that just whiten for a short time then the mould reappears. Any suggestion are appreciated.

  • I’ve only ever used bleach. I’ve f you find the mould keeps returning, you may need to consider re grouting

  • White vinegar is a good thing spray on leave for 30 mins then rinse off

  • Bleach doesn’t kill the mould – white vinegar does. After spraying with a vinegar solution and leave for a while, the go crazy spraying it with bleach to get the grout back to white

  • Bam Spray removes mould and grime from tiles quite easily. Spray it on, scrub it with a soft brush and rinse off with water. If you are cleaning a tight corner you can use an old toothbrush. You can also clean marble with it. We cleaned an 89 year old headstone at a Cemetery. As the lettering is lead we did those sections slowly to make sure it didn’t go under it at all.

  • if bleach doesn’t work etc then you will need to re-grout. you can do this yourself for cheap

  • I make a paste of nappysan and water and use a toothbrush to scrub the grout.

  • I forgot about Clove Oil. I did get some Selleys Mould Killer the other day and it seems to have worked.

  • Ive got oil of cloves in my medicine cupboard. I always use it for tooth aches. It tastes yuk but anything to get rid of toothaches. Hope it works.

why remove mould with clove oil?
We have a great reference from a Brisbane City Council inspector reviewing flooded, smelly, already mould-growing homes. He advised to keep away from chlorine bleach to clean mould as it only ‘bleaches’ the colour out and does not kill the mould. “It’ll be back in a few weeks,” he said. “CLOVE OIL is the best!”

Clove oil perfume: Spicy. Warm. Oil of cloves combines well with: Lavender, Orange, Ylang Ylang.

Clove oil properties: Analgesic, Expectorant, Stimulant.

Cleaning uses: Mould removal: Add a couple of drops of clove oil to a paste of bicarb and vinegar and scrub grout with a toothbrush every few months (source: Spotless). Clean mould from hard surfaces: mix 1/4 teaspoon of clove oil per 1 litre of water, spray on, leave 20 minutes and wipe off, spray on again and leave until mould dies and drops off (source: Shannon Lush, ABC local radio).
    Room disinfectant
    Insecticide

Personal uses: Clove oil has long been used for analgesic (pain killing) purposes.

    Contra-indications:
Clove oil is highly irritating to the skin and must be diluted to concentrations less than 1% prior to use.

Please take care as baby and sensitive skins may be affected by clove oil residue on items that come into close contact with the skin – for example, baby car seat covers.

To help keep mould to a minimum once you have eliminated it from your surfaces try our Mould aroma gel that removes mould spores from the air using clove oil.

  • Great question, following with interest, especially tips for old grout in an old home…..

  • The only thing that will work is OIL OF CLOVES, you can buy it at the chemist. It may take 2 or 3 goes, but it works. I used it after the 2011 flood to clean the mould from all the woodwork where the flood water came. It is a very small bottle(10 mls) directions on the bottle.

  • Maybe get some professional advice if it is persistent.

  • Its not a natural cleaner or anything but I use a product from White King, especially for bathrooms and cleaning grout. Its very good and works every time!

  • Exit mould and bleach do not get rid of the mould. They only bleach it. I’m not sure how to get rid of it either. I wish I knew.

  • Bleach or exit mould may work?
