Hello!

My kids go to school, they get head lice, we get rid of it and it comes back again. Always seem to be treating headlice. What products do you use?

  • The last time we had a breakout of lice was in June ’17, 6 of the 8 of us had it and I spent $250 on products ! I used all products on the market by now. We had so many breakouts over the years.
    Best is to prevent it.
    Shorter hair.
Make the hair heavier with conditioner, gel, hairspray.
Lice like clean hair wherein they can move freely: a braid or plaid helps. And this may sound silly, but stop washing the hair with shampoo !
I now spray the hair daily with a vinegar tea tree oil solution before I brush it (half vinegar, half water, circa 50ml tea tree oil) in an old cleaning spray bottle. It absolutely helps.

  • I use a few drops of eucalyptus oil in my shampoo and conditioner to keep them away. It works really well.

  • Lice are the absolute worse! We found 2 ways In our family that work. First of all the product KP24 (local pharmacy should have this) you can buy a kit. but if your looking for chemical free coconut oil and apple cider vinegar and a lice comb. :)

  • Conditioner and a not comb, then spray in some tea tree oil :)

  • My kids had head lice once. I slathered on hair conditioner and combed it through with a fine toothed nit comb. They all came out. I followed up 10 days later, meant to be the life cycle of a nit, no nits again. I often sprayed with watered down eucalyptus oil afterwards

  • licner is supposed to be the best. available on mail order or selected chemists

  • Conditioner and a nit comb will get rid of headlice. I seriously don’t think there is a way of preventing them though.

  • I use Orange Medic Lice Treatment. I have only had to use it once on my daughter and that was about 2 years ago. I always make sure her hair is tied up in a ponytail or plait for school. It smells just like oranges, so no nasties smells.

  • I was told to use the cheapest bottle of conditioner you can buy at the supermarket – smother it in the kids hair leave it for around 15 minutes then comb it through. It works on my kids every time – the main thing is just keep doing it every few days even if you have previously got them out. To prevent in the first place hair gel, hair spray or tea tree oil works.

  • Chemist warehouse has a lot of good products and advice!

  • yes i know this battle. my eldest brings them home to everyone. kp used to work well but they changed the formula and it is not very good now. I have been trying to keep lice down by combing with conditioner but i will be buying something else soon. I have used moov lice in the green box. It goes on thick like a conditioner and not runny like all the others. I don’t think that it is that effective either but it smells really nice. I do the follow up treatments but i think that the kid that sits next to my child isn’t treated and keeps spreading it to my kid.
