Fascinated by the answers and the number of people who have agreed that hand pulling is often the best method. I have a lawn that is virtually dead apart from a few patches where the kangaroos and stray sheep haven’t destroyed the roots totally! The bare patches have had weeds for years and I’ve finally gone around and scraped/dug them away. The grass has actually spread! I think having a good thick grass helps to prevent weeds, and it seems hand pulling was quite effective so far. I didn’t get on with the feed and weed product even on the dead bits – must have non-broadleaf weeds? Anyway tried seasol mixture in bucket, to strengthen grass roots and I think focusing on healthy grass is also a good way to go.
I WEED n FEED twice a year. That gets rid of many broadleaf varieties of weeds first. I do dig out weeds a bucket at a time when necessary. I like to spot weed by spraying a little Bioweed kills the plant in hours, mostly us this where it’s hard to dig out spots.
What about weed and feed have you tried that and if you have and had no luck go to a garden centre and ask, sometimes you just have to make sure you don’t let the weeds flower and pull out as many as you physically can.
