Hello!

After experiencing my first time with cracked nipples from my son pulling at it I have been using lanolin cream and gel breast pads but it’s still so painful after a week as I’ve still been feeding. I tried a shield also but it makes him bite down even more.

What is the best relief for cracked nipples?

  • A pharmacist may be able to help.

  • I’ve heard that paw paw ointment is really good.

  • I’ve heard breastmilk helps.

  • oh dear, I feel your pain xx I am a big believer in vitamin e oil – buy the capsules, and break them open x

  • Air + sunshine. But head to your chemist. Ask for multimums they areincredible!

  • Lansinoh was good for me and didn’t have to be washed off before feeding again. I like the idea of the expressed breast milk too. I’ve heard that works well.

  • Rub a bit of expressed milk on the nipple after bub feeds and let it air dry. If possible expose to sunlight as well.

  • Try pumping that breast fir awhile? Give it a break from your son?

  • I used Lansinoh before and after feeding. I found this helped me a lot

  • I used paw paw cream with normal nipple cream. I use to apply it hour and made sure I keep my nipple moist and soft has it helped with my nipples cracking. Maybe talk to your child health nurse or ask at your local chemist. Good luck

  • I too used the lanolin but when my daughter bit me, my health nurse told me to take her hand and nip her back. Not too hard but enough for her to stop.
When she bit me next I got blood blisters from her and I bit her back, she stopped biting and eventually my boobs healed.

  • I always used Paw Paw cream.

  • I suggest you talk to the pharmacist. Perhaps contact the nurses who helped you at the hospital. I think the crem mentioned above might be the one my niece used. The chemist was too sure about it but the Obst. and the Paediatrician suggested. One nipple actually bled and bubs got blood in his mouth.

  • I found bepanthen worked for me. Put it on straight after feeding and then wash off before the next feed.
