Hello!

I purchased some tape( blue colour) and taped along the ceiling so I would not get pàint on it. When I took the tape off it stripped some of the paint off the ceiling. How can I stop this from happening again?

What is the best tape to use when painting?

  • I’m surprised the blue masking tape took paint off. I’d check with a paint/hardware store salesperson.

  • I would have said the blue masking tape.

  • you can get painters tape from bunnings which is good. i use masking tape tho cause it’s cheap!

  • Wow, I didn’t know the blue masking tape would do this. I always thought it was better than the regular cream coloured masking tape.

  • This happened to us too! The trick is to pull the tape off before the paint dries. We had parts of our house painted and I noticed the painter didn’t use tape but I guess professionals dont need to

  • We use cheap masking tape from the supermarket

  • Thankyou for this question, I have this problem as well as bleeding under the tape, well about to start painting In the next few weeks so off to bunnings we go again.

  • Duct tape?

  • I find – just buy the cheapest, but in places where you worry about it pulling paint off, do a double layer of tape.

  • Great answers from everyone as usual. We use the blue tape but have never experienced a problem. Like others have stated good old Bunnings will help with suggestions.

  • I go to Bunnings and ask the helpful staff what I need.
You can get different tape for different surfaces.

  • Wide masking tape from Bunnings, if in doubt ask one of the friendly staff

  • Spend the money and go to bunnings and buy the blue or any good painting masking tape. Dont go cheap as the cheap ones will pull off the paint as you lift it. Remember to lift it straight away after the last coat but gently pulling it up slowly. The cheap ones pull of paint and also let the new paint bleed underneath

  • Hi I use bear brand green tape, but be careful they come in slight colour changes which is the tack grade,i use a medium tack,i have used a low tack but it has a problem of coming unstuck hope this helps cheers Darren

  • I would also like to know this we are intending on painting this summer and never seem to get the right tape generally it sticks to well and we end up not being able to remove it all.
