Hello!

What thermometers do you find best to use and most accurate for an upset, wriggling baby? My sister had a scare with a high temperature in her baby and I want to get her a good one.

  • Most popular baby thermometer: Metene Infrared Forehead and Ear.
    Best rectal thermometer: Kamsay Digital.
Best forehead thermometer: Exergen Temporal Artery.
Best ear thermometer: Braun ThermoScan 5.
Best ear/forehead combo thermometer: iProven Ear and Forehead.

  • I would also recommend the Braun Thermoscan.

  • We have an Omron thermometer for armpits that has lasted years. For upset bubs, I still managed by cuddling them and holding that arm still. I had also bought an Omron thermometer for in bubs ear (thinking it would work quicker) but it didn’t last too long. Also had a strip you placed on bubs forehead but it was useless. I’ve since bought the Omron armpit one for my sister-in-law too. I know you can get dummy ones for them to suck on but my bubs would never take a dummy and they grow out of that stage, whereas the armpit one will work on all ages.

  • I’ve got a Minnie Mouse on for the kids. But pretty much any thermometer works. For little ones, I prefer to place in armpit for temp. I think you can even buy the point in the ear temp takers now. That would make it a breeze

  • Braun Thermoscan — my daughter actually sits still when she is getting her temp checked.
She suffered 6 double ear infections last year and another 2 earlier this year.
    The most accurate check.

  • braun

  • You can get a dummy thermometer, I’m not sure how good they are but they are cheaper than the scanning ones. I thought they were a pretty neat idea!

  • I don’t use one. I observe the behaviour of my baby and feel their body with my hand.

  • Fore head thermometers sold at chemist warehouse.

  • We used the Moimee one – it wasn’t very accurate. Upgraded to the Braun Thermoscan and it was very accurate!

  • I agree with the Braun recommendation , it was suggested by our doctor and has been the only one of many with accurate readings every time

  • I have tried a few and the best I have found is the Braun thermoscan. It seems to be the same when they use at my local doctors. Very easy and quick. Not cheap, I think I paid $89 but worth it as it is hassle free and quick especially with a wiggly child

  • Ours is a Braun Thermoscan as well, and would highly recommend!

  • We have a Braun Thermoscan that we have had for years and it’s been brilliant – our doctors use the same.
