Hello!

We have a Bosco Self cleaning oven which is only 4 years old that we have to throw out- every time we run the self cleaning program it breaks and we have to have it repaired with new power boards etc. I am at a lost what to buy, we spent a lot of money to buy good quality only for it to break in a short time. Looking for other peoples opinions of what to purchase, I mainly do baking biscuits etc hopefully in the future to do baking in the local show when my girls get older. It has to be 600mm oven. Thanks in advance.

  • On thinking about it I agree with the suggestion about contacting the manufacturer provided you have kept all your repair accounts. It may be that there was a re-call that you were never notified about. If you are unable to locate the manufacturer, contact the company you bought it from, they should be able to give you the details and location of either the manufacturer or the agent who stocks them in Aust.

  • I have never heard a positive comment about a self cleaning oven. A good quality oven that you can wipe out with washing up water on a cloth regularly will keep your oven clean unless you have something splatter or boil over in it. That’s what my Mum always did and you don’t need as much “elbow grease” unless it suddenly gets really dirty. In actual fact the wrungs were harder to clean than the rest of the oven. We never had separate ovens. Ours were always part of our stoves. We always had gas ones, not electricity. We replaced one when the seam in the top of the oven split open. The second one we replaced was it developed a slow gas leak where the pipe came from the wall to the pipes of the stove itself. The pipe below the oven that went up to the griller and and gas top had rusted together at the joint. A private plumber and also one from the gas Co. couldn,t get them to come undone even with large wrenches The stove we bought in 1981 we replaced in 2007. If anything “spat” om the gas top we let it cool a bit then put a wet dishcloth on the top where it needed cleaning. That loosened whatever it was and made it a lot easier to wash off. We could then dry it with a clean cloth. That way we didn’t have to lift the top off as often to wash it. An advantage as it was so heavy and awkward to remove. We had Chef stoves. They were exactly the same as one of the more expensive brands and the same quality too.

  • Don’t buy a very expensive oven ! From what I have heard from friends etc the dearer and more complex they are the more can go wrong with them. My old Modern Maid oven is over 32 years old and still cooks a doozy of a pavlova and bakes beautiful sponges! I am very reluctant to get a new one! Westinghouse would be my choice for my oven replacement when it comes. They don’t break the bank and do the job that is needed!

  • What an unfortunate situation, for me I recommend Westinghouse too, never had any problems.

  • Mine doesn’t self clean but has served us well. Ours is a Smeg. I’ve also hear Miele ones are really good.

  • How disappointing for you! I would also speak to the manufacturer; that is a short time frame for an oven to need repairs!

  • I am not much help but will be interested in reading the responses.

  • That not good. My sister has had trouble with her Bosch appliances too. (Never keeping the heat even and fridge thermostat playing up and no parts and the Company did not want to help her so she will never buy their product again.) I have used Westinghouse appliances for year now. I have just bought my third in 22 years of marriage. I have just completed a kitchen renovation and bought all Westinghouse Appliances. Never had any trouble with mine and I cook in my oven at least once a day.
