Hello!

Does anyone have ideas on which plants are good to plant now for summer?

  • You can check out the Diggers website to see which crops to plant now according to your growing zone.

  • I’m just about to plant tomatoes, sweet corn, cabbage, kale, cauliflower, peas, chives. I think some of these also grow ok in winter. We’re in Tassie, so our summer is fairly mild. I hope it goes ok, fertiliser all done, just need bug repellent now

  • It also depends how much wind you get, how much sun or shade they will get, what type of soil you have and water availability.
You need a list suitable for the area in which you live. That causes a considerable variation to your list. Some plants are more suspectable to diseases, insect attack and other problems in a humid climate. Some vegetables do better with other plants (often herbs) as companions

  • We’ve planted some zuchinni and its growing so very well!

  • Tomatoes, zucchini, lettuce, radishes, some herbs like basil too

  • We have zucchini growing at the moment along with cucumbers. The zucchini is exploding! We also have beans and tomatoes.

  • Tomatoes and lettuce and lots of herbs. Great for a quick and easy salad!

  • Choose fast growing veggies like leafy lettuce and and the like. Tomatoes will do well if planted now as will strawberries. Success will depend on what you plant and your climate. Gardening Australia have a good guide on what to plant and when based on your climate. I might be worth checking out their website. Good luck with it :-)

  • If you plant now, you will be planting for harvest for late summer/ early autumn. Unless, you’re planting planting and not seeds. I would try to buy plants that are already out in natural light. Otherwise the plant will die and you have to be really gentle with the plant. I would suggest root vegetable or even herbs that like hardier weather like Chilli’s, Parsley, Mint, Rosemary. If you live in the Redlands I could give you some passionfruit plants. I have an abundance of them. Good Luck

  • Zucchini and tomatoes are great. Herbs such as basil and parsley grow well and do chives.

  • You can plant tomatoes, lettuce, chilli, cucumbers, spring onions, beans. Just imagine having these in your garden. Also basil, parsley, mint are also great to plant.

  • Oh I’m so glad you asked this question! I have been wondering the same exact thing!! 8-)

  • Watermelon, pumpkin, tomatoes and sunflowers are what I have in. I also have parsley scattered all over the place from previous plantings.

  • Corn, egg plant, pumpkins, bean are going very well during WA summer
