Hello!

I’m a mum of two 9 and 10. One of my biggest quiries has always been what is the average bedtime for others of a similar age. My girls go to bed at 7.30 but I know of a family with children the same age that go to bed at 6:00, what times do your kids go to bed?

  • When they cue or l go mad

  • My 9yr old used to go to bed at 8pm, but since she is on Intuniv (medication for ADHD) she’s far more tired and I aim to get her in bed by 7pm

  • When I was 10 it was bed at 8pm with half an hour reading.
I was up at 7am every morning without an alarm clock, bright eyed & bushy tailed ready to start the day.
    Every child is different though.
You know your children & what is best for them.

  • My children used to go to bed at 7.30pm however recently my eldest daughter who is 9 went on school camp and her teacher had them going to bed at 8.30pm. We’ve now increased their bedtime to 8.30pm but require 30 minutes of reading,

  • This is a great question and one I’ll be following the answers for. I seem to recall going to be early but my sibling and I were up early for swimming training most days so we probably got between 11 and 12 hours each night.

  • It’s not a matter of what time I think though 7 730 is a great time. 12 hrs sleep is recommended for kids of that age so as long as they are able to get tag much sleep I wouldn’t worry that your kids go at 730 and others go at 6.

  • yes and you know your children. Could they use more sleep? Big events like sports will have my children in bed early too

  • really it is what works well for you and how much sleep they need and what time do you have to get up to go to school! we were 7.30 I think at that age.

  • My son is 11, and he watches a movie until 8:20, then brushes teeth and is in bed by 8:30 and can read for 20-ish minutes. He gets up between 6:30am and 7 am. That seems to be heaps of sleep for him, but all kiddies are different :)

  • At that age my daughter went to bed around 8:30. It also depends on how late the kids need to wake up in the morning. My daughter woke up around 7 a.m. so she had plenty of sleep.

  • My nieces are a similar age and go to bed between 8 and 8.30. They seem constantly tired and it reflects in their behaviour. 6pm is far too early even for a baby – Tizzie Hall – author of save our sleep recommends a 7am to 7pm routine or bubs! If 7.30 works for your children definitely don’t change a thing!

  • 7 usually but 7:30 occassionaly. weekends they can stay up a bit later if they are not carrying on

  • we send our kids to bed between 7pm and 7.30pm. For me to get my kids to bed at 6pm they would have to have tea at 4.30pm and thats just to early. By the time they have tea at 5-5.30pm some dessert and a play before the shower and a book and a little wind down time. its 7pm before you know it.
