Hello!

We are going camping for 7 days and need some meal ideas beside BBQ, damper and veggies in alfoil. Will have a gas hot plate and open fire. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

  • Food that requires minimal Prep, washing up and cooking space whilst camping is usually the easiest. Can you Prep and cut up veggies before you go? I’ve taken leftover roast and veggies that just needed warming up in the pan and came up quite nicely. Think about usual quick and easy meals you cook at home and apply them whilst camping.

  • There are so many gadgets out there for cooking while you’re camping, you can just about cook everything you would normally cook at home

  • One pot meals are good for camping.

  • Investing in a camping cook book is a must for campers.

  • Bacon and eggs is always lovely and a pasta recipe,so easy!

  • My kids used to come back with good stories after a school camp. They have toasted marshmallows, spam ham , baked beans , I think my son even made damper.

  • You can’t go past a camp oven. Anything can go in from any type of meat or chicken and lots of chunks of veg. Add in some stock powder and water and there it is. You won’t believe the taste and when your done, add water to the empty pot and place it back onto the fire and the dishes are done……Fantastic.

  • Basically anything that you are comfortable cooking at home or willing to experiment with when camping. It really all comes down to the amount of room you have to travel with and what type of food cooler you have if you want to have perishables.

  • Pasta and Sauce.
    Soup
    fried rice
    stir-fry

  • Quick food like couscous. Then you can mix it with vegetables for a quick meal.

  • make marshmallows!
sausages, anything you can boil, shish kebabs, steaks, potatoe chips

  • Cans of tuna, beans, spaghetti are always handy whilst going camping. If you have a cooker then you can boil up some rice or pasta and serve this with heat through sauces. It is always handy to have plenty of crackers on hand – one can eat these for lunch with vegemite etc. Also Deb (instant mash potato) is a great idea to take camping. You can eat this with barbequed meats.

  • pancakes are nice and easy Scrambled eegs too!

  • Instant noodles in the cups or bowls are awesome-just add boiling water :)

  • Things I have cooked whilst out camping, Is bean salad, Spag Bol, Stock Pot, A variety of one pan meals by buying the book. Just need to shop and prepare for each meal in advance :)
