Hello!

My oldest has just started prep and as all kids do they want to have play dates with their friends I’ve gotten a few parents numbers and messaged them straight away so they had my number instantly to but the parents I have gave my number to hasn’t done the same and it’s been bugging me so I’m curious as to what every ones opinion is when it comes to it.

  • I wouldn’t take it personally, some people are abit slower and may be in the middle of something.

  • I agree not to take it personally. You can take initiative to reach out and then you have to leave it to the other to respond.
You never know the reason why someone isn’t responding. Some people text straight back, others are laid back or forget. Both parents may work, some have a full program with after school activities, some may have hard circumstances.

  • some people are good at texting straight away – others aren’t. I don’t think it’s something to take personally

  • i added a few on facebook so we could remain friends, but whats worse is when your kids stop being friends at school for a silly reason and they dont want to be friends anymore, then mumma gets jealous of the other persons facebook post of them hanging out with other mums lol

  • It’s nice to exchange numbers rather than leave it all in one persons hands.

  • My boy started prep this year and most of the kids are still adjusting and pretty tired after school and by the weekend they really need a rest. So most families have to cram everything into Sunday then it starts all over again Monday.

  • Good idea to message immediately if someone gives you his phone number. So they also have it. I would probably do the same. This way everybody has the necessary data when they are ready for a playdate.

  • This is something I haven’t had to deal with yet but I’m happy to read everyone’s opinions. In other situations I only usually swap numbers to organise something specific so I imagine this is what I would be thinking in this situation too.

  • It really does vary from person to person. I don’t always message someone immediately, unless I’m actively trying to set something up. If I want someone to message me immediately so I’ve got their number, I ask them to.

  • This is always one of those awkward times when you’re never really sure what to expect. I usually add mums of my kids friends on facebook so that I can contact them through messenger and will only get their phone number if the kids end up going on a playdate. My kids go to a fairly small school so most mums get to know each other.

  • If you’re only messaging them so they have your contact, they would then have your contact number on their phone and wouldn’t need to message you so you have their number. Parents today just over think everything. Personally, I wouldn’t message any of them unless it was to organise or invite a play date
