  • Vegetarian sounds a good option, so maybe google vegetarian ‘festive food’. just check that the ideas are still gluten free. Another non-vegan option is prawns…. absolutely delicious with simple salad and gluten free seafood sauce. At the end of the day it’s just about being together, not fancy food. You could also ask them what they might like.

  • What about smoked salmon with salad? That’s light and tasty.

  • Cold chicken and ham, salad and perhaps a bowl of cherries on the table also for a festive feel. Followed by say a slice of lemon meringue pie or a nice moist fruitcake. Date scones also go down well at Christmas time.

  • Turning to some good online dedicated sites for gluten free and low fat meals, including Christmas meals may be helpful. I often turn to these sites for inspiration. :)

  • Chicken and salad is always good for a light meal and it can always be made to look festive.

  • And ? What light Christmas dinner did you end up making ?

  • A simple ham quiche using gluten free flour would work for them both & a lovely crisp salad on the side. I’m making an icecream Xmas pudding for dessert this year, a lot of gluten free recipes available online. Happy Xmas.

  • Beautiful salads, roast veggies, pie’s, stew’s, mixed cracker selection with a variety of meat, fish, cheeses and spreads like humus etc (so there’s something for everyone), platters of exotic fruits.
I’ve 2 kids on gluten free diet and on diary free and 4 from the 8 are vegetarian as well.
In seasons like Xmas I always make sure to make a good batch of gf and diary free pastry and dough.

  • What about Jamie Oliver’s sweet glazed carrots? The recipe is here https://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/vegetables-recipes/sweet-glazed-carrots/

  • Grazing platter (minus the cheese) with fruit, dips, crackers (gf and normal ) olives, carrot, capsicum, corn chips etc

  • Why not have cold meats and salad which I think is perfect for any occasion . People say don’t eat too much processed meat due to health reason etc… but when it comes to quick meals at home or any special occasions the deli is fantastic. I love cold hams, chicken , turkey , mortadella and even buy some cocktail frankfurts and people help themselves. Or throw in a light BBQ and have some wings and thin sausages that is so quick and easy. Then they have variety of cheeses, crackers, olives , etc.. SO convenient in one stop shop !

  • Stick to simple Roast Chicken and Roast veggies with balsamic vinegar .. A vegetarian Shepard’s pie too or quiche would be a good addition. You can also do simple fruit salad & custard for desert.
