Hello!

I bought a jar of organic extra virgin coconut oil recently, but I’m a bit hesitant to use it. Can I use it for baking as well as cooking meals? Can it be substituted with other oils in recipes, and if so, do I substitute it 1:1 or not? Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance. And if you have any recipes, please point me in the right direction :)

  • I often use it in dishes that I’ll be putting on coconut rice, such as stirfrys. I also like to use coconut oil to make lemon coconut protein balls.

  • You can use it in baking, for frying – for ANYTHING!

  • What a great question! I often look at coconut oil and want to buy some, but am unsure of what to do with it. I have heard ppl put it in coffee (great for your lips) and also gargle with it and swish it round mouth. Spose to absorb impurities etc

  • I use it to cook my stir Frys in

  • You can buy tasteless refined coconut oil if you are worried about the taste. You can use coconut oil as butter but you cannot use coconut butter as oil. I tried and it just sits in the pan and cooks like a lump of cheese! lol!! Seriously though coconut oil is lovely to cook with and it does not burn and will not smoke at a high temperature. I fry chicken in it and it tastes divine!

  • Unrefined coconut oil is stronger in taste than refined one. So I use one instead of the other depending on the use.

  • I use coconut oil in cooking and baking and have been really pleased with the results. If you’re concerned with the coconut flavour there is refined coconut oil that is very mild in flavour.

  • Yep you can use it in any recipe that calls for oil just bear in mind that it can change the taste of things tho.

  • I found the MoM’s blog on coconut oil answered many of these questions

  • I use it for EVERYTHING. Even as a moisturizer. I use it as a butter, cooking oil….. just replace it as your normal oil. It’s good for you, a natural sunscreen (from the inside of you) and also good for reducing fat.

    It is a good fat.

    Eat up.

  • Most use it 1:1 in cooking and baking but just have a go and see what u prefer. I guess it also depends on whether it’s solid or liquid at the time cause that affects it’s volume (ours melts on warmer days and is solid all winter long at room temperature). I love the smell when it’s in the fry pan! But I also use olive oil for things I don’t want the coconut flavour/smell in.

  • You can use it for anything! In raw foods, for frying or baking. You can even use it in beauty products if you want to make them yourself.

  • I use it sparingly as not much is needed for cooking. I use it as a spread, I add to shakes, drizzle on salads, and apply to my skin and hair, it is wonderful for just about anything. There is even Coconut sugar, use it instead of sugar in baking and to sweeten foods and drinks.

  • i only ever use coconut oil, i just use it like any other oil! cooking, baking etc. its also beneficial just to drink a teaspoon or use it on face and hair! awesome stuff
