  • Always write a list of the groceries you need and don’t deviate from it. Check with other insurers every time your insurances come up for renewal, the company you are with may not necessarily be the cheapest. Don’t buy on impulse and give your wardrobe a makeover rather than buying new gear every year.

  • Have a budget, stick to it, dont buy takeaway and dont impulse buy

  • Having a budget plan is worthwhile.

  • Stick to your budget and make plans ahead.

  • Learn to maintain and mend EVERYTHING yourself. From replacing the heels of those expensive winter socks to darning little holes in t-shirts and camouflaging with ornate beadwork, replacing tap washers, replacing bent venetian blind slats, you can save a huge amount of money. Mending (or remodelling) clothing, in particular, can help you extend the time between purchases. I am heading for my 8th month of a year’s moratorium on clothing buying. Saves us a fortune and is fun to do while watching TV.

  • definitely researching house insurance, car insurance, electricity providers etc. the premiums can vary greatly.

  • For us it’s a simple food budget and stick to it. Helped heaps lately

  • We put $5 every week direct transfer into our children’s bank accounts. We don’t notice the deduction but over a few years we have managed to put quite a bit away for their university fees.
