  • Is this for kinder or primary I just think the start of the year would be good

  • We just went to the local government school. They take enrolments in November the year prior to starting. So nov 2018 for start in feb 2019

  • From what I understand, Kindy 4 in Victoria is compulsory (please correct me if I am wrong) and we were advised to submit our application as she turned two. They usually post when to apply for certain school years. Anyway, I am a stay-at-home mum so our daughter never did daycare and so we decided to enroll her at Kindy 3 (not compulsory and not offered in every school) to help her develop more her social skills with other kids. I guess it depends on your kid if you want to enroll her early. If you think he/she is ready then go for it.

  • Depends if they school is fancy and has a wait list. I enrol mine the year before they start, a few months before or whenever if there’s a cut off.

  • It depends on what kind of school you want to enroll your child into.

Private schools (Independent/Christian) often have waiting lists and different fees. If you’re looking at a private school, it’s worthwhile to check how much this will cost you up front, then after you’ve got a place. Sometimes these are called ‘application’ and ‘acceptance’ fees. There are also sometimes annual family levies that you will be required to pay.

Catholic schools are sometimes zoned, and sometimes require a reference from a Priest – so if you’re not a Catholic, it’s something to consider early on. Some, depending on popularity, are also zoned. So if you’re not in the ‘zone,’ you’re bumped down the waiting list.

For public schools, I’d enroll the year before (so 2018). They often have open days and ‘enrollments now open’ signs.

If you’re looking at pre-school (Year 1 minus two years) then I’d recommend enrolling him for the year he turns four, if you’re looking at Kindergarten (Year 1 minus one year) then I’d recommend enrolling him for the year he turns five.
