Hello!

Just wondering when do mums usually RSVP to a party? On the last day of school before the holidays, I sent out invites to my son’s 6th birthday party which would be on the first Saturday of Term 3 (when they come back). I know they are probably on holidays at the moment thus I’m not getting any reply (and I didn’t really indicate when I need the RSVPs) but I need to know the number of kids coming so I can tell venue and also make sure I have enough girls and boys giveaways… Hopefully they don’t RSVP 2 days before the party or turn up without letting me know first! Help?

  • In my experience, never. They just show up ????????

  • Most parents will rely on the RSVP date and will respond within that time. You may have to chase people up with a phone call if they take too long to RSVP.

  • For both my kids last birthday parties I had an RSVP date and I think about 50% RSVP’d on time 40% late and 10 % not at all. The 10% that didn’t RSVP didn’t show up, the rest did. Its really hard when you need to let a venue know numbers etc.. but I guess people get super busy etc. As frustrating as it is I would definitely allow for extras after the RSVP date.

  • You should have given them a RSVP date – some people simply won’t, without a prompt. In my experience, most people RSVP a day or two before the RSVP date. I usually allow a week to chase up the inevitable two or three that don’t answer.

  • Personally I RSVP as soon I receive the invite. But often enough people don’t RSVP at all, annoying I know !

  • There’s usually a date to RSVP by. Sometimes I’ve phoned invited guests to get a response.

  • Very interesting comments. I usually RSVP within a day or two of receiving the invitation.

  • i know a few stories, one I know, none rsvp, on the day of the party, the mum put a note on the front door saying, party has cancelled as no one rsvp. another story, a mum cancelled the party the day before and took her family to an outing instead to make up for feeling bad for her child and turned out they had the best day ever without having to worry.
people are just lazy nowdays….back then we used to have the rsvp slip at the bottom of the invite to say if we are coming or not, give the slip back to the party person which goes to the parents…that was easy because we didn’t have mobile phones that time but it was fun!

  • I hate rsvp’s as people are just so rude.. its a simple thing, just pick up the phone or see the person at the school. for the ones that didn’t rsvp, I didn’t make any lolly bags because I didn’t want to make the effort also to have left overs I’m stuck with them. people don’t realise now days that some venues you have to pay for the number of kids that have been invited and still pay when they don’t turn up. that happened to me when going to croc’s playland. I had to pay for 3 kids that didn’t rsvp, and didn’t turn up. I was peeved off. sometimes its better not to have a party at all and not worry about any stress that involves organising a party. last year, I had to chase 3 parents to see if they were coming to my son’s party because they didn’t rsvp, also 1 of them never rsvp, couldn’t chase the parent and the kid never turned up.

  • Unfortunately you will have some people call the day before regardless of the rsvp date you put. That’s just how it is.

  • Good luck with that! I’ve sent invites to a few parties now and received hardly any RSVPs. I’ve even stated on the invitations to RSVP by a certain date, no luck. I think it’s a dying courtesy

  • Gosh I hope not too, sometimes though I have found 4 days beforehand annoying hey

  • My daughter hardly got any rsvp’s for her daughters party, yet most still went.

  • People are horrible for RSVP’ing!
