Hello!

I know there’s a lot of ads about how long to keep your pillows but does the same apply to wool or feather donnas? Am I putting my children at risk with older doonas?

  • I wash them every now and then. When you have a dryer you can put them in the dryer as well, with a tennisball I was taught by my mum. My mums father and brother had for many years a shop in high quality beds and bedding, my mum has worked for many years in the shop.
A good quality doona should last years and filling can be added when needed.
If you have a steam-cleaner yourself you can also steam your bedding, pillows and mattresses. You can bring it to the dry cleaner as well.

  • Good question – guess I should throw out my yellow doona!

  • I replace doonas when they start to get lots of dirty patches. When the filling has become patchy. When they start to smell. There are places around that can clean the doonas. They suck the filling out, wash it and the covering and put it all back together. Lengthens their life expectancy

  • Good question.. I’m actually thinking that I might need new doona’s and new mattress’

  • We replace every 2 years with the sales after Christmas. Sooner if needed. I don’t use feather ones

  • i think that they will be fine because you can wash them

  • Just wash and air and they should be fine. Some can be dry cleaned as well.

  • just wash or dry clean at least once a year as long as the cover isnt stained etc

  • Wash in the machine and dry in the hot sun at least once a year.

  • I think you just need to wash your doona and don’t need replacing for many years

  • I get ours dry cleaned yearly unless there has been a spill or has become dusty ect

  • Washed mine the other day and dried outside.

  • I’d though about pillows, but not quilts!

  • some good advice on here :)

  • I’m going to check if the new ones come with a date on them. Reminds me I need to wash ours though!
