My eldest was born very premature.. He still had a bottle at 3yrs of age! My younger 3 were born overdue, and breasted until 12-13mths each… They started on cows milk just after their first birthdays, and only ever had a bottle at night, they had sipper cups during the day! They were used to drinking from a cup because they drank water, or freshly squeezed juice from their cups while i still breastfed them. The bottle only lasted a few months (6mths at max), and then they didn’t want it anymore, they just wanted their cup.
There is no perfect age, I transitioned my son to the Nuby Super Spout Easy Gripper Cup when he was 18mths in preparation for the arrival of bub. He took to it well & was proud it be a big boy.
As early as possible so that they can transition easily to a cup with minimal fuss. Before they get addicted to the bottle. But, it’s really not a biggy and every family needs to choose when the right time is for them.
It’s really up to you, I believe that there is no right or wrong answer to this one! Ours are only 1 so we’re not at that stage yet but for us it will probably be around the 2 year mark…
I breastfed my children… They wouldn’t take expressed milk from a bottle at all.
But for me your question lacks clarity, If you are asking when should they transition to a cup I would personally start transitioning to a sippy cup at meal times when a liquid is offered with a substantial solids meal.. So maybe 9 months for the enthusiastic eaters.
If you’re referring to that last bedtime feed where they fall asleep and our hearts melt at the sleeping angel and there wasn’t any teeth cleaning I think that is a mothers prerogative.
In short I think if the last milk is taken at the dinner table then a cup would be the correct delivery device for me.
