Hello!

Hi mums, my daughter has food allergies so she cant have soy or dairy or eggs. I’m wanting to know which is the best milk alternative to buy. She currently has rice milk with added calcium but I hear almond milk is better? Which milk alternative is best? Thank you.

  • We use coconut and almond milk. It’s funny how many people look to milk for their calcium intake, while there are many other food sources rich in calcium. Think for example about greens like chollard green, kale, broccoli and so on but also meats and fish

  • MY mother is lactose intolerance and she is in her 70s with osteoporosis as she took her calciums tablets too late . I would have an appointment with your family doctor to see if are any healthy diets and supplements she should use and they may even recommend a dietition. It is better to start early than later so she is always eating well .

  • Cool! Interesting reading the comments given to this!

  • I love almond milk mixed with coconut milk. It’s now available in supermarkets like Coles.

  • Her calcium intake will be a concern, so you do need to check if the milk you choose is fortified. My daughter was lactose intolerant but could have soy. I still try to find ways to increase her calcium, but it can be a bit hard as she no longer likes soy. I think using a variety of milks might be best to increase the chances of getting a variety of vitamins and minerals, etc, rather than just sticking to one.

  • I use coconut milk, it has so many health benefits and tastes great!

  • i love using coconut milk and oatmilk

  • there are some good comments here

  • Give them both a try, they probably have the same benefits.

  • I would use both – variety and you then get the benefits of both. Might be cheaper too as you can buy whichever one is on special at the time.

  • Good answers -what did you end up using?

  • I would have thought it was preference – how did you go with choosing?

  • Which milk did you end us using?

  • What did you end up choosing?

  • Almond milk is good if you don’t have a nut allergy
