Hello!

We were always told to give our babies boiled water in between feeds if they had hiccups. This is no longer the case but it dosnt make slot of sense to me given the fact that we are largely made up of water.

  • Like anything, we become more knowledgeable over time. In the past it was likely a done thing because that was the knowledge they had. Moving on in times must be showing that it is not beneficial to give water (likely due to an already liquid diet).

  • Breast milk is definitely enough and adjusts the water content automatically if the baby requires more hydration eg. in hot weather. With formula feeding it wouldn’t matter as much but I’d be cautious to only give small amounts of boiled water

  • I was always told if baby wasn’t hungry, ie you just fed baby, and they were still unsettled thru could be thirsty. Cooled boiled water was suggested. Ive never heard of it not being recommended

  • Exactly because they are made up of a lot of water. Giving them. Water before 6months and too much of it could be a health is, potentially drowning them from the inside! Please research this, Ive been told by maternals .

  • I agree, it could be because of that. But to be honest my little one used to ask me for water and I would give it to her. I do not think that is an issue

  • I believe it’s because it could fill them up, and make them not want the far more nutritious breast milk or formula.
