Is it really dangerous to eat deli meats while pregnant?

  • The reason you are advised to avoid deli meats during pregnancy is to avoid the possibility of contracting listeria. Listeria is very dangerous for unborn babies and pregnant mothers.


  • Deli meats have a higher risk of listeria. If I chose to eat deli meats while I was pregnant, I’d heat them up either in the microwave or as a toasted sandwich. If they are heated until they are steaming, it should lessen the risk of listeria.


  • There is a higher risk of food poisoning that could be dangerous to bub which is why you are advised to avoid them.
