Hello!

My kids (like a lot of kids) love hot chips. Because of this, I have tried on many occasions to make a healthier version at home for them, by cutting my own potatoes, spraying them with oil and baking them in the oven. However they never turn out well at all – either soggy, or burnt on the outside, or just yuck! It may be because we have a pretty poor oven, with no fan, but I’d like to at least try to improve my results!

Does anyone have any tips for making homemade oven-baked chips in the oven that are edible? Thanks!

  • We have our airfryer for this reason! It does the most amazing chips without the oil


  • Hope you have had success with your chips.


  • Dry potato chips with absorbent paper I also heat tray in oven before putting the chips in


  • Aww I think the fan in the oven helps. We have a fan oven.


  • Have you thought about an air fryer?


  • Make sure they are spread out on baking paper; then they should cook evenly.


  • You do have to part cook them first and then do them in the oven also make sure the oven is preheated


  • To oven bake chops you must par boil them first. Other options are to slice really thin using a mandolin, put potato in a bag with oil and seasoning, then lay out on baking tray and put in oven. We now use an actifry which is wonderful, it gives really great results as it is turning them whilst cooking.


  • They always taste horrible and dry so I bought an airfryer from Aldi. Taste like fish & chip shop chips.


  • I found the same thing ,so I now slice mine thin like the packet potato chips and cook them in coconut oil in my fry pan than sprinkle with herbamare. And the kids love them


  • I always make oven baked chips and they come great.
    What i do is par boil the chips in the microwave. Maybe for 5-10 minutes. They should be fairly hard still you should be able to pierce a fork through them without them breaking apart. Then i drain them and pat try with paper towel. Then i coat in a couple of Tablespoons of oil. Then bake for 45 minutes. They will come really nice and crunchy!


  • I always cut my potatoes peel on or off up to you and then slightly par cool them in the microwave. Then in the a freezer bag I put about 1-2 tablespoons of olive oil and some taco seasoning, then go in the drained potatoes and give them a good mix around. Then I pop them on a baking tray lined with baking paper and cook at about
    180C until nicely browned. Time depends on how big your chips are but generally about 20 mins.


  • Turning them so all sides have a nice crisp or use and airfryer, they are awesome for chips


  • have you tried par boiling and patting dry so they take the oil
