Hello!

I ask this because I bought some recently and the label said it had some ingredient added to it so it actually nourished your nails. I really don’t get it! What do others out there think about this.

  • I believe that it weakens your nails – but to be honest, I can’t remember why I think this.

  • If it says Acetone , you can tell because it has that metho smell which I really dislike . You want the acetone -free ones which doesn’t have the toxic smell and is more gentle on the nails. They are available at all supermarkets and chemists such as Priceline etc ..

  • Thank you JOWILL. much appreciated.

  • It is quite harsh, but the truth is that removers without acetone simply don’t work as well – you find you have to scrub and scrub the remover in to get the polish off. At least acetone gets the job done quickly, and I agree with others that scrubbing nails with a soft brush and soap afterwards and moisturising is the best way to go.

  • I went and bought some Vitamin E cream today! Thank you for the advice! The girl at the chemist uses it too!

  • There are some very knowledgeable mums out there!

  • I always; use Vitamin E on my hands after using nail polish remover; helps to keep my hands ‘happy’! :)

  • Thank you all for your responses. I will take these all on board.

  • Acetone tends to dry out nails and leaves dry cuticles behind if not moisturised properly.

  • Acetone leaves a white residue on nails.

  • Non acetone also contains a percentage of acetone however acetone is full strength. Acetone leaves a white dry substance arou d fingers and dries the nails a bit. Once you wash your hands all the whiteness disappears. Painters use full strength acetone to remove errors. There’s realy no harm. Just wash hands and apply so
e cream or oil to soften the skin.
p.s. Its much easier to remove with acetone than supermarket polish remover

  • I have used this for many years. I have good strong nails of my own. I always take off the nail polish them wash my hands and nails and most times soak them for five minutes and dry them off before starting to paint them again. I have had no problem but I do understand the warnings. I think that we need to worry more about some nail polish that comes here and the ingredients that are in them. For instance a Red varnish I had once had lead in it and I was so effected that my nails swelled like frog fingers and they were infected. It took three months to get back to normal. I did take this up with the Chemist Chain that I bought it and they still have that brand on sale to this day.

  • It’s a very harsh chemical so prolonged use wouldn’t be good as with any chemicals.
