Hello!

This morning, we visited the doctors to discuss bed wetting. After the appointment, we were sent home to “wee in a bottle”. Mr 6 did his duty, and my god did it smell! Not only was it foul smelling, it is also extremely dark.  When he was born, up until about 9 weeks old, he had severe jaundice. He drinks water non stop throughout the day and doesn’t consume any other fluids. He eats a healthy diet of fruit and veg, plus the other staple diet needs. He doesn’t indulge in much artificial sugars etc. Why is my son’s urine so dark? Does anyone know what could cause this?

  • I would think he needs more water, but I would check with your GP.

  • Normally it means not enough fluid, but I would go to the doctor as it could mean something else

  • Dehydration however you said he drinks at, my next bet would be a lot of protein in his ruined which is a cause for concern non Pe the less ask a professional.

  • Definitely back to the doctor.

  • i would say to drink more but if you think he does drink enough then maybe get him checked out

  • Dark urine usually means dehydration.

  • It really does sound like an infection to me!!

  • I am sure by now that you have a solution to this but i agree with the others the smell would be an infection and the dark colour i ‘would’ have said about not drinking enough but you say that he is so obviously his kidneys are working the best to help his body. Good Luck.

  • The urine test the Dr is performing will most likely answer this question for you.

  • if it smells bad and is dark then he probably has an infection and needs some antibiotics, this fixed will probably solve his bed wetting also

  • Seek medical advice.

  • that sounds horrible – has it been sorted out

  • there are some good comments here

  • Did you find out the cause?

  • Have you seen the doc?
