A mum in America has given birth with the same nurse who delivered her over 25 years ago.

Brittany Ellard Perryman gave birth to her daughter, Caroline in December last year.  She shared her incredible story birth story – one in which one woman helped bring both her and her daughter into the world.

Nurse Daphney Jones Walker helped deliver Brittany in September of 1990.  Her mum, Dawn, was new to the area and didn’t have any family present at the birth.

Throughout her life, Brittany says she has heard her mum “sweetly remember” nurse Daphney, and when she discovered the nurse still worked at the hospital where she planned to give birth herself, she decided to arrange the ultimate in surprise reunions.

Brittany shared the reunion on social media:

“I showed her [Daphney] our picture from many years ago. I brought it to the hospital because I wanted to meet this woman who was an angel to my mother. I wanted Mom’s special surprise to be seeing Daphney again. When Daphney walked into the room, Mum immediately knew who she was – from 25 years ago. Mum couldn’t believe it! She jumped up and hugged Daphney, and we all cried.”

The reunion seemed even more complete, when Daphney told Brittany that she would be the nurse assisting her throughout her delivery.  The dedicated nurse stayed with Daphney until her shift ended, leaving Brittany in the care of another nurse for the rest of the day.

Brittany was still in labour when Daphney returned for her next shift and was happily there beside her as she welcomed baby Caroline into the world.  Brittany shared:

“There I was, 25 years after she helped me take my first breath, relying on sweet Daphney. Trusting her when she said it would be okay, following her directions, listening to the blessings she was speaking over our Caroline. Caroline came that evening, with Daphney by our side. What an honor and special blessing.”

Brittany told AL.com that she and Nurse Daphney keep in touch regularly and she is looking forward to Caroline getting to know the woman who has literally meant so much in her family’s life.

“I want her to have evidence of all the lives she has touched,” said Brittany. “I know a lot of nurses shadow her, and I want them to see that if you take care of and love your patients, you can change their lives.”

  • My teacher I had at school taught her children and one of her grandchildren before she retired after 50years of service… Also I had the same midwife for my two oldest children and I had them in the same room and on the same bed (I knew the numbers on the bed) .

  • Amazing. When I had my son a couple of years ago he had the same pediatrician that my brother and sister had when they were born 222 and 24 years earlier.
