Mum delivers her six child in front of 1.4m viewers who watched her labour and birth online.

Sarah Schmid 36, from Germany, gave birth to the newest member of her growing family in 2016 next to a playground in her garden, shares The Sun.

More than 1.4 million people watched her give birth, including her kids, as she uploaded the footage to YouTube.

A video of the experience was posted on her YouTube page, where it’s attracted around 1.4 million people who have watched her give birth.

Sarah explains why she decided to share her experience: ‘A woman looks like a woman. It is the most natural and normal thing in the world. I don’t think it’s strange.

‘In old cultures the girls would watch their mothers give birth so they would know what it was like. Now the chance to do this is very small.

‘This gives people the chance to see birth, and especially birth without intervention. It’s a rare thing to see.’

She said responses to her unusual birthing technique have been ‘very different’.

‘Some people are excited and some think it’s the most stupid think I could do,’ she said.

‘I don’t mind. I love my happy and healthy family.’

Having trained as a doctor, she said she had been inspired to adopt ‘free birthing’, (birthing outside without any medical assistance) as she was ‘put off’ after seeing people deliver babies in the wards.

‘I studied medicine to become a doctor, although now I am a full-time mum,’ she explained.

‘There I watched people giving birth in hospital and I thought, ‘I can’t do this. It isn’t relaxing.’

Sarah said the experience made her want to give birth without intervention and after having Johanna at home in September 2006, with the help of a midwife but no pain relief, for her second, Jonathon, she decided to forgo any medical assistance.

  • Beautiful. The baby fell from quite a height.

  • Babies have been stillborn because of the cord being tightly wound around baby’s neck.
If you have a baby in a hospital in a small isolated country town there may not be an aenethetist to give aenesthetic for surgery to be done for emergency c-section in an attempt to loosen or remove the cord surgically

  • If that was what she wanted to post on social media, so be it.

  • I couldn’t believe it when the baby fell. Luckily it was grass and not hard packed dirt. Not what I’d do but if she is comfortable showing everyone then that is her call

  • Each to their own. Personally I prefer the idea of a hospital birth in case of complications, like I did with my first. I’m also a very private person, only my partner apart from medical staff present.
But if she was comfortable then good for her.

    • Like you – I was grateful for hospital with complicated births.

  • Glad she felt so comfortable with a totally natural birthing process – could have gone terribly wrong though when bub fell to the ground Live streaming – no, I think this is wrong. Video for your family, fine – live streaming is pure sensationalism in my opinion.

  • To each their own, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable doing it! Obviously there were enough people interested in it to watch!

  • Wow. I would want privacy not the world to see my births. Didn’t like to see the baby fall to the ground like that. Lucky he was okay.

  • Everyone is different and I preferred privacy during labour and birth.

  • Great that she gave birth naturally, bad she live streamed, I really don’t agree with the live streaming, did she make money from this? Not fair on the family either.
