A Queensland mother has taken to Facebook to voice her disgust after being hit with an extra charge for cleaning up after her own son when he vomited in the restaurant.
Rebecca Harnett, from Toowoomba, posted a review to The Glasshouse Bistro’s page on Facebook, outlining the “unpleasant experience”.
Ms Harnett wrote that her son became ill and vomited on the floor while they were waiting for their food.
She said she didn’t expect staff to clean it up, but she was left shocked when she had to pay extra to do it herself.
She wrote: “One of the waitresses gave me paper towel and a wet towel. I cleaned it up and she came back with plastic bags for me to dispose of. All fine with that.”
“While we waited on our meals my 2yr old son had a little vomit on the floor. I didn’t expect anyone to clean it up. One of the waitresses gave me paper towel and a wet towel. I cleaned it up and she came back with plastic bags for me to dispose of. All fine with that. The lady in charge comes over after we’d finished eaten and said, I heard you had a little accident. The standard charge in any restaurant is $30 if you want us to finish cleaning up. I said no, it’s ok I’ll do it. After waiting another 10 mins she got me a mop and bucket. I mopped the floor and went to pay for our meals. The lady in charge – I’ve had to add $10 onto your bill for someone to disinfect the mop, I suppose that’s better than paying $30.”
The restaurant has responded to reactions today by offering to refund the $10. MEH! Too late?
Followed by an image that is more condescending than apologetic…
The image has not attracted a good reaction at all with people replying…
“WOW – Just….. WOW
This is terrible, making “jokes” while you are under the media spotlight and should be contacting Rebecca IN PERSON ( a half arsed “uhhhh sorry” on a webpage is NOT an apology.”
“That’s a very immature thing to do for a business of any kind. For the people willing to give you benefit of doubt in this incident you have just concreted the poor skills that have been globally spoken about. It’s also a insult to think that Rebecca would even contemplate thinking this was a heartfelt apology. She is a strong mother who has every right to speak her mind. Shame on you!”
“Not an ideal image for an apology.”
“You’ve got to be kidding right?”
“Seriously ?”
