Plus this super-mum jumps off waterfalls in her spare time for some extra exercise…who doesn’t?

Byron Bay native Abigail O’Neill, a 44-year-old Mum of three, has an impressive Instagram following for one envy-inducing reason – she looks so incredibly young! Speaking to Beauticate, Abigail said the secret to her youthful appearance is a 12 minute miracle shower designed to plump the face, relieve the mind and tone the body. That really does sound like a miracle!

A Basic Routine

Abigail says that the shower consists of a basic routine completed three times. It involves turning the water in the shower on hot for three minutes, then cold for three minutes, trying to “go as hot and cold as you can bear.” A model, Abigail says she has followed the routine for more than 30 years. “I have no doubt it has contributed to my youthful appearance, which is why it is one of my top tips,” she said. It should be noted, however, that this 12 minute youth boosting shower is not the only thing that Abigail does to keep herself in shape. We knew it was too good to be true…

Superfoods and Self Control

Abigail’s diet is loaded with superfoods and ruled by incredible self-control (no Dairy Milk blocks in sight). To start the day, she has a glass of lemon water followed by fruit, barley green and spirulina The Sun reports. The rest of the day is equally as healthy with antioxidant smoothies, root vegetables, legumes and green salad all on the menu. If she does feel like something indulgent, Abigail snacks on 100% raw chocolate. Oh and she doesn’t allow herself any cheat days when it comes to her eating habits, so there isn’t a Friday night takeaway to be seen. Abigail also follows a strict exercise regime but keeps it fun (?), with climbing cliffs, leaping off waterfalls and surfing some of her favourite activities.

Turns out that whole 12 minute miracle shower thing is probably about 1% of the reason Abigail looks the way she does…

While it’s difficult not to envy Abigail’s eternal youth, there’s also something to be said for how you feel within yourself – and we don’t think you have to give up that extra coffee or sneaky slice of cake to achieve that.

What’s your secret to looking youthful no matter your age? Let us know in the comments!

  • She really does look great! I’m all for the lemon water on the morning tooo!!

  • Wow that’s amazing she looks great, you’d never be able to tell she’s had so many children!

  • She looks very good. I wish I had her flat belly. She’s very committed to what she does. Well done!!

  • If only I had self control over my food choices!! I crave all the bad stuff. ???? Think I may try the shower thing out though.

  • She looks truly amazing !
But the way we look is not of highest value in life.

  • Amazing for her age. Her diet plays a huge role!

  • She looks very healthy and fit, definitely a lot more going on than a long shower! Oh well the rest of us can dream looking like this is achievable

  • I spend all my time running after the kids!! Where does she get the time to do all this.

  • I’ve heard of this. I don’t think that there is scientific proof behind it.

  • Wow she looks pretty good good on her I think a proper diet and excercise and sleeping well all help you to stay in shape and look youthful

  • I think sleep is the best thing for looking youthful or it might just be a lack of it that ages you fast.

    • Lack of sleep has many and varied consequences. A good nights sleep repairs and rejuvenates us but a good nights sleep can be difficult to come by when someone has children.

  • 12 minute shower ??….gosh I am for ever hurrying my son up when he showers. If I followed this 12 minute thing we would run out of water.

    • I know right! I got stuck at 12 minute showers too! Just goes against my ideas about water conservation and the sustainable use of resources. Water is expensive too and to use that much water in each shower session staggers me on so many levels.

  • I am surprised in a place like Byron Bay that anyone would have 12 minute showers! We were told to conserve water in Byron Bay. I actually do not want to remain looking youthful – happy to age as the years progress and still enjoy every minute.

  • She looks amazing I find it hard to have a 1 minute shower without my little people banging on the door wanting something!lemon water tick I’ve got that one!

  • Who has 12 minute showers?! Hasn’t she heard the golden rule of limiting your shower to the length of your favourite song, and that’s your average 3 minutes, not any extended versions. Conserve water remember, it’s precious
