Mum shares shocking photos of her daughter’s bruised ankles after nursery workers taped the toddler’s shoes on her little feet.

Jessica Hayes, from North Carolina, had been to collect her daughter from Pleasant Hill Daycare after a day at work and was horrified to find her daughter’s shoes secured to her feet with masking tape.

According to the mother the daycare staff had been ‘aggravated’ by the fact the youngster kept removing her shoes.

She took to Facebook on Wednesday last week where she shared the photos of her 17-month-old, and told how she believed a member of staff had ‘done it out of being aggravated’ by her daughter removing her shoes.

Jessica said that the action had since been taken since she had reported the incident.

Writing on Facebook she said: ‘I am upset that this happened to my child as someone was clearly upset that she was learning take her shoes off and done it out of being aggravated. This was also not just her shoes being taped up it was around her ankle.

‘I appropriately reacted and went straight to the director who was just as speechless as I was. I then went to take the tape off and my daughter was crying as this was obviously uncomfortable to her.

‘I proceeded to call and speak with the director to inform this has left marks on my child. Pleasant Hill Daycare as well took appropriate action and dismissed the two employees involved.

This is crazy! I would be shattered to see that on my child.

  • Not acceptable that the staff acted this way. Good on the center for taking action.

  • Also agree the shoe is poor fitting should of been addressed differently

  • For starters, the shoes look too big for the child. Maybe appropriate fitting shoes might limit her removal on them. Taping them on is just not acceptable, especially when it leaves bruises

  • Where does it say in their job description does it tell them it is okay to do this. Good on the Daycare facility for following through with appropriate action. Here’s hoping her daughter is not left with any emotional scars about taking her shoes off

  • What the hell? I agree that this is child abuse. Perhaps the staff members in question should have their feet taped up, see how they like it!

    • That is a great idea, you shouldn’t really do that to a child and maybe if they had it done to them they might rethink what they’ve done.

  • I read this elsewhere and was so shocked by the bruising on this little child’s feet/ankles. The pain she must have been in. The Mum was right to complain and share so the centre never does this again.

  • Just so wrong to do this to any child. Glad the appropriate action was taken.

  • Oh my goodness, that is so not ok !
My youngest always takes her shoes and socks off and many got lost. That’s just how she is. I call her my bush girl.
This week she had an infection on her big toe and i asked the staff of the childcare centre if they could try to keep her socks and shoes on as otherwise dirt may come in. But trying and succeeding are 2 different things. I would be so shocked when they would tape them on her feet!!

  • Poor baby girl. Some people shouldn’t work with children if they get frustrated with them that easy

  • This is disgraceful behaviour. Thank goodness the staff involved have been fired.
