Neighbour writes note to parents asking them to stop their baby boy from crying after 8pm.

The note, which was shared with Sydney mothers’ group Inner West Mums, asked the parents to hush their baby at night because ‘it’s important to get a good night’s sleep’.

‘We couldn’t sleep recently because your baby was crying. We all understand the baby crying, but we usually go to work early in the morning,’ the neighbour said.

‘We don’t mind during the day, but I’d like [your baby] to be careful not to cry for a long time after 8pm.

‘I hope you understand.’

neighbour note

The angered mum shared her post with some information about her child’s sleeping rituals to provide ‘a bit of background’, writes Daily Mail.

She said the child rarely made a noise after 9.30pm, and she never let him ‘cry it out’, a technique used by some parents which allows the baby to cry without intervention.

The mother, from Sydney’s inner-west said she felt the urge to leave a very direct note for her neighbours but did not want to start a fight.

‘I want to leave a simple note saying ‘babies cry’ and attach earplugs [but] my husband wants to explain that he’s jetlagged,’ she said.

‘What would you do to make a statement, but not start a war?’ she said.

Recently we shared how a mother of four was shocked to receive a note from neighbours offering advice on parenting after her kids were making noise in the backyard. Read more here.

  • I would pop on over and be as nice as pie and say “Thank you so much for your note. I have been at my wits end trying to work out how to get bub to stop crying as its so exhausting and to get your note and see that you could help me with this was just awesome. Can you please explain to me how to go about this? as believe me I am very excited to learn” …and then just stand there with a huge excited grin and jumping from foot to foot as if you are beside your self with excitement. If they admit that they have no idea how to go about this thats when you drop the smile and look at them with an ‘Are you serious?’ look and shrug and if you can just burst into tears and tell them how mean it was to send such a note and get your hopes up….then storm off.

Most likely you wouldnt hear from them again.

  • Oh man – babies cry. It’s not like you can stop them. Also I’m sure this family was trying to comfort the baby.

  • I’m sorry, this made me laugh. I had a child that screamed 24/7 due to colic, etc. I was at my wits end and we tried everything. Babies do not cry within certain hours. Clearly the neighbours don’t have babies or have ever been around them. They’re in for a rude awakening in the future.

  • I’d say her neighbours don’t have or have never been around babies and toddlers before. Telling a baby not to cry after a certain time is just ridiculous, it’s just not possible. Hopefully the neighbours see reason and either understand or decide to move out.

  • That’s ridiculous! Even if they weren’t using self soothing methods, babies and sometimes even older kids will wake up and cry and this usually does happen after 8pm. I can’t believe there are really such numpties out there!

  • And after they magically stop there baby crying they can get started on world peace. Poor family as is having a crying baby isn’t hard enough

  • Just what a mother of a young baby needs
I would be upset but I’m not sure how I would respond

  • oh did they forget to turn their baby off? How silly of them

    Reply

  • Well clearly the writer has no children if they think you can reason with a baby!

  • If you are in a situation where you need to sleep well etc, you shouldn’t be living in an apartment! If they both work I’m sure they can find another free standing place to live! But you know, babies cry, and if the baby is not screaming for hours on end etc, maybe you can give the parents a break! Buy some ear plugs etc. I suppose they were at the very least nice in the message

  • just turn off a baby from crying in certain hours! What a rediculous request. Ignore this letter. The writer can get themselves a set of headphones.

  • These people obviously know nothing about babies! Maybe the mum could write back; “If you can invent an ‘off’ switch for my baby’s crying, then I will gladly comply! Sorry you were disturbed!”

  • Possibly return the note wrapped around some earplugs!

  • Some people have nothing better to do than make up nasty vendictive bull.

  • Oh dear lucky they’re not my neighbour’s bub doesn’t care about other people’s sleep.
