Mum slammed after posting a photo of a McDonald’s, KFC, pizza and fizzy drink feast for her young daughter’s 7th birthday.

The mother-of-two, from Ratana on New Zealand’s North Island, was warned she would ‘give children diabetes’ after she posted in the Heil’s Kitchen group, which promotes healthy home cooking as an alternative to takeaway food.

‘My girl’s 7th birthday party. Kentucky chicken, cheeseburgers, Thai food, pizza,’ she captioned the post written in Maori.

The picture has 20 cheeseburgers, 20 soft drink cans, 10 pizzas, six KFC buckets, six coleslaws, five potato and gravies and three Thai stir fry containers with chocolates and sweets scattered through.

People were quick to slam the mother for the fast food feast, with one man calling it a ‘diabetes birthday’.

‘Happy birthday, we got you a heart attack,’ another man said.

‘That’s something I would expect for a boys 16th not a girls 7th birthday party,’ a woman said.

‘New Zealand has a massive obesity problem and this is not helping. No seven year old needs food like this,’ another woman said.

‘This is not a healthy diet.’

I must admit when I read the headline I expected it to be a teenagers birthday. It is a bit much for a 7 year old. But everything in moderation!

  • What a lot of nasty drama over nothing. This is awesome. Its for a birthday party and no child is going to have life long health issues from attending. This would only be an issue if it happening every week and I very much doubt it is.

So how many of the people that posted nasty comments have ever consumed pizza, kfc or McD’s?? I bet you that most of them have at some point….if not all of them.

  • I don’t think it’s too bad for a whole party on one day of the year. Everyday, sure it’s a problem, but one day for a special occasion seems okay to me.

  • It’s a party, one meal, if the kids are mostly healthy most of the time, one meal won’t affect them that badly

  • It’s a party. Possibly a big one. A burger and some chips. No difference then a takeaway night for most families. It’s just seeing it in one big hit. Kids parties are laiden with lollies chips fizzy what’s the difference?

  • She’s certainly gone all out there however I wouldn’t go this far.

  • There will always be someone to criticise anything you put on the internet

  • Well I wouldn’t do this for my kids… but it looks amazing – a child’s heaven!!

  • I’m personally against soft drink at such a young age but in all honesty I’m sure it’s a one off and was food for a large crowd. Treats like this are fine in moderation.

  • This could just be a one-off and enough food for many, many people. All in moderation, I say. Let’s not ruin someone’s birthday celebrations.

  • Good on her, a birthday is a one off special occasion.
And I recon half the critics feed their kids that all the time… and just to say… I got fished up two of these bad boys today at my nephews birthday party. 1m wide Pizza. Yes it was delicious, oh and kids only took one slice…. the adults where the ones pigging out!

  • Birthdays are a celebration, a treat, something special to remember. Poor mumma to share a special event and be so openly criticised. Not my choice of party but my kids have attended other kids parties along this theme.

  • It is a party, it is a treat, get over it!

  • Not my style but each to their own. If it is a sometimes treat then I don’t see the problem with junk food. It’s problematic when it is a regular occurrence.

  • Wonder how many came to the party and if there were adults as well. Yes it is a lot of junk food and it would have cost quite a bit.

  • I was a bit scared to read other comments on here too. I think it is wrong but I do also wonder how much went to waste and the cost would have to be over $100 dollars i think. Why would you do this for a 7 yr old and I get that she has a huge selection of choices but yes welcome to having diabetes.
