Finally! A solution to your never-ending problem of picking up after the kids.

Let us introduce you to the “Sunday Box”.

The Sunday Box is a genius parenting tool that Bron from Mumlyfe has shared to help save your sanity.

The rules are simple

Each night after the kids go to bed, anything that belongs to them that you find lying around the house gets put into the Sunday Box and the kids can’t get it back until Sunday.

All toys, books, clothes, notes and sundries get picked up and thrown in – no questions asked!

On Sunday, it’s the kids responsibility to go into the Sunday Box, take out their things and put them away where they go. Anything left in the Sunday Box at the end of Sunday gets donated to charity or binned.

Take that!

We are all giving this one a try – why don’t you?

  • I like this idea. Something I might try in the future when my son get older.

  • I have a chuck bucket that is very similar but things don’t stay in there until Sunday. I give the kids 2 days to get their things out of the chuck bucket or they get donated (or thrown out if not decent). It’s been working really well to keep our living areas tidy. I’ve written up the Rules of the Chuck Bucket and stuck it to the side of it so they can see them

  • Great idea to stop the complaining and fighting over it. My Dad used to throw it into the backyard without notice

  • Obviously it depends on how old the children are, but very simple and presumably, very effective. I would love to read a follow up story on how this is working for the said mum.

  • Good idea. The only con is that when you donate to charity when things aren’t tidied away after a week, you may end up spending more money to buy additional toys and have yourself with it. Unless there’s an overflow of toys anyway, then that’s not a problem of course. I prefer to lock toys temporary away when they’re being misused or not tidied. Of course I’ve no problem to dumb the junk away ;)

  • What a brilliant idea. Wonder if it would work as well on adult children. Might have to try this

  • I did something along those lines, but with no second chances. Lego on the floor ,, is no more! Up the vacuum. Same with barbie accessories. My girls learned real quick! So I’m now doing it with my husband. Any tools left lying on verandah or inside the house will be confiscated. I’m amassing a good collection. Which I will sell back to him, basically an impound fee.
