Mum shares these images to remind people why it is SO important to vaccinate and protect those who are too young or unable.

Kayley Burke from Queensland shared this post on Facebook to remind people exactly why you need to vaccinate.

“Vaccinate your kids people… The pictures below show you exactly why… she wrote.

“Our poor baby boy who is too young to be immunised has caught the chicken pox… It has almost been a week since they showed up… Today he was admitted to Ipswich Hospital with a secondary infection… Kaliah and myself also have the chicken pox fortunately since Kaliah hasn’t long been immunised she has a few spots and blisters but is well in herself… Adult chicken pox is so horrible and painful I would much rather give birth with no pain relief… They have just given me some medication also to help with my symptoms…”

“Bottom line if you don’t vaccinate your kids you’re a bloody idiot… Think about the risk you are putting on other helpless kids that are too young or who actually can’t be vaccinated!”

We recently shared a story from a UK mum who wanted to warn other parents how severe the chicken pox infection can be for some children. Read her story here.

What is Chickenpox – Varicella via RCH Melbourne

Chickenpox is an infection caused by the varicella virus. It cannot be treated with antibiotics. Treatment is usually to relieve the symptoms.

It is easily spread by either having direct contact with (ie touching) the person who has chickenpox, or from fluid droplets in the air when they cough. Fever and a rash are the most common signs of chickenpox. A person with chickenpox is infectious to others from one to two days before the rash first appears until the last blisters have dried up. Children and adults of any age can get chickenpox but it is more common in children.

One in 5,000 people who catch chickenpox will develop a brain inflammation called encephalitis, and three in 100,000 will die. A chickenpox vaccination is recommended for children aged 18 months as part of their normal schedule of vaccinations.

Signs and symptoms
•A mild fever.
•Feeling tired and irritable.
•Itching.
•Rash. The rash usually first appears on the chest, back or face.  It then can move to other areas of the body including inside the mouth. At first, the rash looks like small pimples. These later become blisters full of fluid.

  • This is just heartbreaking. If you believe you shouldn’t vaccinate maybe keep your kids at home.

  • Poor little munchkin! Yes, vaccinate people!

  • Aw bless your poor baby boy !! Hope you and your boy recover soon !
My kids were vaccinated but 3 of them got chickenpox anyway, so you can’t always avoid spreading it even if you’re vaccinated. Sorry this happened to you.

  • Wow now that’s a good enough reason why. I looked back doubting vacs except I am pro vaccinations in the majority of cases, as vaccination can save a lot of pain and heartache.

  • I really don’t understand people who just don’t vaccinate.

  • My kids were vaccinated but two of my kids caught it anyway and thankfully it was a very mild case. My husband caught it as well as he had not had it as a child and he was a mess.

  • In the article it states that the older child had been vaccinated against chicken pox, and still had a mild case. The thing is, this baby and whole family probably caught the chicken pox from the vaccinated child. If you look up the insert warnings from the actual manufacturer, the warning is right there. Vaccinated children can shed the virus for weeks, and the vaccinated individuals we\’ll end up with a mild case, but everyone around them that they infect will not. Ironic that they are calling for all to be vaccinated, vaccine virus strains can affect the vaccinated person mildly, but can transfer to those immune compromised, elderly, infants much more severely than if they had just gotten the pox without the vaccine. I\’m not making it up, comes straight from the warning insert. Screaming for all to vaccinate might not be the answer here.

  • It’s so good that this vaccination campaign goes on. I hope it will go through all people’s minds soon.
Poor little child! I had chickenpox when I was around 12 years old and it was really terrible.

  • Totally agree. I get so mad at parents who decide not to vaccinate and say ‘its my choice for my child’. Yes that may be correct but in that case keep your unvaccinated child away from other children, elderly people and anyone with compromised immunity. In fact keep them away from all other people. It might be your choice with your child but you dont get to put other people at risk because of that. Coming from a mum whos preemie twins are immuno commpromised for life and had to wait years for their 1st vaccines because they were so small and sick.

  • Breaks my heart. How can people be so inconsiderate and thoughtless?

    Reply

  • It is just irresponsible not to vaccinate.

  • Poor little Bub, these pictures highlight how not vaccinating can put the most vulnerable at risk.
