One mum shares how her ‘nagging’ potentially prevented a devastating injury to her little boy after a car crash left their vehicle a total wreck.

Rebecca Tafaro Boyer, from Memphis, shared on Facebook how her husband and baby son, William, were driving home from the pharmacy when they were involved in a crash as another driver tried to make a quick left turn.

Rebecca shared how she had earlier messaged her husband warning him the harness on William was too loose after he’d sent her an image of their baby boy sleeping in the his car seat.

“My nagging wife reply was to correct William’s position in the car seat — the straps were too loose and the chest clip was way too low,” she shared on Facebook.
“And because I know my husband, I’m sure that he laughed at me and rolled his eyes before tightening the car seat and fixing the chest clip.”

Thankfully little William was so tightly restrained he failed to even wake up from his afternoon nap during the accident.

“I am so thankful that my husband took the extra one minute that was necessary to put William in his car seat safely. I can’t even begin to imagine how different the outcome could have been,” she said.

“I truly believe that the reason my family is at home sitting on the couch with a pair of crutches instead of down at the hospital is because of my annoying nagging mom voice.”

She is now warning other families that all children under the age of two must be in the seat rear facing with a tightly fitted five point harness.

Her warning has attracted over 32,000 shares.

Previously we have shared a Mum’s warning after the car seat leaves her toddler internally decapitated. Read her story HERE.

  • Thank goodness she said something and thank goodness her husband responded instead of just ignoring her.

  • A family friend is a retired Police Officer. He attended tragic accident on a country road a few years ago. On arriving he and the other officer discovered the driver and passenger in the front seat were both deceased. He was about to walk away from the vehicle when he spotted a baby seat in the back. She told us he thought the baby was deceased too but decided to check for a pulse. The baby was breathing and fast asleep. The could smell petrol so they very carefully lifted the baby out of the car still in his babyseat, they didn’t want to get him out of his seat until the ambulance arrived in case he was injured. They then radioed their Base for an ambulance to be called for the baby to be rushed to hospital. The baby woke up just as he was being transferred into the Ambulance. Besides the normal examination and tests the hospital immediately did some xrays to check for broken bones etc. Fortunately the baby didn’t sustain any injuries at all. He was kept in hospital for observation then taken home by his grandparents. The information about the baby was given when the Police did a follow up. The Police made the details of the accident known to promote the correct use of babyseats. No names were used in the report and the people who were warned privately weren’t given names either. They were however told the brand name of the babyseat.

  • Lucky you were able to see what needed to be done and your husband did as requested. I think this is the best form of nagging

  • Luckily that the man posted the picture and the wife saw immediately what was wrong with the straps!! It could have ended up so differently!

  • That’s lucky – I feel as though we should maybe adjust ours now too – it’s hard in the winter when they wear different thickness coats.

  • Very lucky! I always feel like the straps are too tight on my little bub, but I would dare loosen them for this very reason!

  • Very glad there were no serious injuries.

  • Thank goodness Mum & Dad had the sense to look after bub’s welfare and fix the seating, otherwise he could have been injured.

  • A warning to us all, to make sure the seat belts/harness are on correctly, even for the shortest of trips.

  • I can so understand that she’s so thankful that her husband took the extra one minute that was necessary to put their boy in his car seat safely.
