Laura Mazza, from Mum on the Run, shares what we all really think about Mother’s Day but never actually say out loud.

“Mother’s Day, a day to celebrate involuntarily giving up sleep after that pee stick came up positive.

  1. Giving up wine for 9 or so months… (But taking it up again just as fast).
  2. To celebrate cleaning someone’s ass crack and waiting patiently to wipe someone’s butt on the toilet after they finish pooping.
  3. To celebrate getting a glass of water for someone at 3am and feeding someone milk for the 4th time at night.
  4. A day to celebrate the days of shovelling food into our mouths quickly at restaurants because we cannot bare a boredom tantrum.
  5. It’s a day for the women who pee when we cough or laugh too hard.
  6. Who have stretch marks, scars on our bellies, broken vag’s that don’t look the same and who were too afraid and couldn’t poop right for 6 months straight.
  7. Who no longer stand straight but sway from side to side for no reason.
  8. A day…where a true gift is a sleep-in and a 10 minute shower.
  9. Where one hour by ourselves would be better than diamonds.
  10. Where a painting that looks like a couple of blobs and says “To Mum” makes you cry and feel like the luckiest girl in the world and a mug with their picture on becomes the best mug to drink out of (even if you have 40).
  11. A day to celebrate trying hard to be fearless but knowing every day you’re scared shitless trying to make their life a perfect and safe one.
  12. A day that recognises that even though our lives turned upside down the day our babies entered our lives, it was a day we learned to love. And really love…
  13. A day to celebrate the day we discovered we would never be alone, ever… ???? but knowing that makes our heart swell.

Mother’s Day, a day to celebrate someone who puts their happiness over her own, who tries to do the right thing even if she doesn’t know what that is, who succeeds every day without knowing, who loves another, more than she loves herself. Who lost her mind… but found her soul.”

Happy Mother’s Day! xx

  • The craziest bit is that we want this.

  • They are truly a blessing which makes all the hard work worth it.

  • And it’s worth every every sleepless night, all the tears in the middle of a restaurant and poo explosions. Especially when you can watch your precious one resting peacefully right next to you.

  • And it’s worth every darn moment!

  • Its so true that mothers put every thing up for their kids and family and I heard this a lot of time that its what every mother does. Every one thinks its a mothers job to do it, I want to say to them mothers are doing it not because its their job but because they love their kids a lot and no one can understand the intensity and purity of that love.

  • Love the final paragraph. Sums us mums up to a tee. Had a few giggles over the rest of the article too

  • Ahaha absolutely love this article!

  • Thanks for the giggle and I can ad being loved so much you can’t use the loo in peace and quiet by yourself and so many others but I would not change being a mum for anything.

  • Haha! Totally true and funny to boot

  • This is the first year my eldest might do a special gift for Mothers day. We do crafts and I still have last years, but it wont be guided by me this time, so extra special, no matter how it turns out..
My birthday usually falls near Mothers day, so I usually get a whole weekend of spoiling (aka Dad helping with day to day tasks more then usual)… Woohoo! It’ll be several years before I get a sleep in but i’ll take a not rushed shower

  • haha this is so true too though!

  • Too many just think about what they should buy their Mum for Mother’s Day. In USA they celebrate so many events including Grandparents Day

  • Great list totally agree

  • Oh so true!

  • Yes! I find myself swaying from side to side and my youngest is 6.
