Mum left devastated after a photo of her son who died had been reported to Facebook as “offensive”.

Photographer Imelda Bell took the photo as part of her volunteer work for the charity Remember My Baby. She appealed to internet users to show support for the mother.

“[The mother] posted this photo of her beautiful sleeping angel on her timeline,” Bell wrote on Facebook.

“It shows the love that she feels for her son, Thomas, and is a beautiful moment (posted with her permission).”

“Someone has reported the image to Facebook as offensive and left her feeling devastated,” Bell continued.

“She has a right to be proud of her son and to post photos of him, just as any parent has the right to post photos of their children.”
“It is beyond cruel to report and crush her in this way,” Bell continued.

“Please like and share the photo to show your support and let her know how beautiful her baby is. Thanks Remember My Baby.”

Savanna Green shares some further details on behalf of her sister clarifying the photo was originally only shared with family and friends, with one of them obviously reporting the image as offensive. Baby Thomas died at nine weeks old.

  • People handle death in different ways. This photo was posted by someone who loved him and was missing him. If you dont like it and dont want to deal with it then just move on. Why do people have the need to be so hateful?

  • Thank you for all your comments. I am little Thomas\’. When this picture was shared on my \”wall\” with the 56 friends (mainly family) that i had on there i had first posted a warning that i was glong to. It still hurts to this day that somebody found my little man offensive. It was never intended to go viral.. However despite the numerous death threats i still receive, iv also received messages from others who have sadly needed \’remember my baby\’ and having seen my pictute knew about the charity.. so despite all the hurt, im glad my little man has done some good for other families x love to all.

  • This is a beautiful photo posted by a grieving mother her is only trying to get over her loss and making it feel that he mattered and not forgotten. If it helps her through her grieving process then she needs to do it for herself and shouldn’t be subjected to negativity from other people. The photo is done in a tasteful way and I don’t find it offensive.

  • Why do people have to be so hurtful she just lost her 9 week old son I think Facebook needs to look at their policies a little better on what is inappropriate material

  • Why do we have to share photos of everything!! Is nothing personal. private. sacred. If people feel a certain way seeing a ohoto then that is their feeling. I dont want to see a dead baby..I just dont. I care but it is so personal. So sensitive. Thats my feeling. Why do we feel bettee sharing sharing sharing with anyone and everyone. Yes close people. That makes me sad.

  • I’m so sorry to hear of your loss and I’m thoroughly disgusted that you have been treated so badly for posting his gorgeous photo on line. It is hard enough with losing him so soon. People need to stop and think before they open their mouths. I can’t see anything offensive in the photo. I honestly thought he was just sleeping. Sending hugs and love your way. Keep strong.

  • My condolences to the Mum shattering news to loose a baby. But had to write as it is even more shocking for someone to put photo of deceased baby out there. Some people have not got a heart or humanity, they should be punished for causing more pain to wht is a very sad occurances. My grandson

  • How can this picture be offensive??? For starters the facts reported were incorrect, the baby was not a stillbirth (or as I prefer to call it a sleeping baby), but a picture posted by the photographer (not the mother). The baby passed away at nine weeks.
If anyone is offended by images of babies who have passed on, perhaps they should address that issue themselves and not post offensive messages to the parents who themselves are grieving. Death is a part of life after all, none of us can escape it.
My thoughts and prayers are with the parents of this little one, I hope they are getting the support they need whilst they grieve.

  • Bless you mum, this is a beautiful photo of your wee man ! I can imagine you’re glad to have this picture and your desire to share it. Sharing (and caring) is in our human nature, we’re not designed to be alone. Sharing creates the possibility to carry each others burdens (that’s even a Biblical principle). Those who regard this picture as offensive are actually selfish, they seem to think that their opinion is very important.
