A Perth mother has pleaded with social media users to help track down the father of her daughter before her 13th birthday.

Kerryn Leigh said she met Rodney, during a snowboarding trip to the tourist hotspot of Queenstown in New Zealand 13 years and nine months ago.

She indicated he was still in Australia, possibly on the Gold Coast and her daughter was desperate to meet him.

My wee girl is about to turn 13 and would really like to find her dad,” Ms Leigh posted on Facebook.
 Rodney, probably late 40 ‘s
Fair complexion he had long scruffy hair fair slightly reddish, blue eyes ? maybe 5’7 to 5’10 hight …..
I met Rodney snow boarding in Queenstown N.Z 13yrs 9 months ago ……. this is all I know he was only there for 3 days with two friends called John, john worked in a cardboard box factory in Brisbane?
Rodney had a daughter around 2 yrs old at the time. (she would now be 15-16 yrs)
I’m pretty sure Rodney surfs & that’s about it ……
We want nothing from him, but possible conversation …..
Who knows I just need to do this for her ……”

  • I’m not sure I entirely agree with this approach, although I understand her need/want to find her child’s father for her, she is sharing very sensitive information with the world. What happens to this man’s life? What if he was married at the time and still is? She’s already mentioned there are other children involved too. I’m not sure what else she could do but I would be very very hurt to find out this way if I was involved with this man.

  • Its amazing how far a message can reach on social media sites. It’ll be interesting to know if this girl gets to meet her dad one day.

  • I was talking with my husband about this case yesterday. What if the man was married at the time he met Kerryn? Or in a serious relationship? Would he like for people to know about what happened 14 years ago? Would he dare to go public? It could be quite confronting to find out he has a grown up daughter.
No, I believe that so far the man hasn’t been found.

  • I’m sure Rodney would be worried that 13 years of child support would be a possible outcome…

  • I wonder why she waited all this time. I hope for the girl’s sake she has a positive outcome.

  • I wonder if he has been found. It is amazing what social media can do.

  • I understand why she’s doing this, but she does risk opening herself up to a lot of criticism. Not least because it’s a pretty big thing to tell a guy 14 years after a one night stand that he has a daughter.

  • If her Dad doesn’t come forward it may be that he has no knowledge or your request or his friends may no longer be in contact with him. He also has another family and they may still be his priority. There is a few organisations that may be able to help you but the fact you don’t have his surname that is going to be a long shot. I wish you luck in your endeavour.

  • What a brave/confrinting thing to do. The possibilty of finding your childs biological parent to give them answers/closure…the risk or public censure refarding the conceptuon.
I hope your daughter meets her biological father, if for no other reason than children have a need for parental knowledge and acceptance.
    Good luck in your journey

  • I hope she finds her dad, we all deserve to know where we come from, whether we embrace it if walk away from it. We all should know

  • The desire to find biological parents can be overwhelming. I hope they find him, even just for 1 meeting. Cant begin to imagine how confronting this will be for the father (if he sees it). Hopefully he will be curious enough to follow through and meet the child – but understandable if he chooses to remain anonymous.

  • That’s a very brave thing to do. I’d like to follow this story. I hope she will be able to locate the man for the daughter.
