Mum bans her kids from entering the living room after her holiday clean up!

Twitter user Nick Denbow posted a hilarious note from his mum, announcing that their living room would be closed until Thanksgiving. It has subsequently been liked more than 35,000 times and retweeted over 14,000 times.

“This room has been cleaned for the holidays and is officially CLOSED until Thanksgiving,” says the note, which was affixed to tape that blocks off the room. It goes on to stipulate, “Special permission will be considered for you to sit on my clean furniture and / or walk on my clean carpet only after the following conditions have been met:

1) you have showered and are dirt and odor free from top to toe

2) you are wearing freshly laundered clothing.”

However, if permission is granted, the note goes on to say, “NO food or drinks are permitted at this time!”

The woman ends her note by saying she can be referred to by one of her many titles: “Mom, Payer of the bills, Chauffeur, Queen of the castle, Person ruining your life, Bossy b—- in charge.”

Classic! Love it x

  • Fair enough. I get tempted to do this with my whole house sometimes.

  • Permanent rule in our house and a couple of others I know of – no food or drinks in the living area or bedrooms. Crumbs were attracting ants into bedrooms. Drinks were being spilt or empty containers left in various places. Some retain a strong smell if not found soon enough, some encouraged ants the same as food did and often furniture was damaged not just stained. One of the kids hid an empty chocolate milk container under our bed (neither of us like chocolate). Next thing was our bed was invaded by ants. Not happy!!

  • I’ve managed to close my theatre for a day…. Don’t like my chances of doing it any longer than that!

  • This is fair enough, they can all still use the living room but just can’t turn it upside down. She probably spent ages cleaning it!

  • That’s hilarious !
Life with these rules would be pretty restrictive though and impossible with small kids.
I would prefer to pull the carpet out and go for a wooden floor or tiles and would prefer a leather settee/chairs cause it’s easier to clean.

  • Hahaha I love this. Reminds me of my mum when she went on “strike” and stopped cleaning and washing clothes became we were a behaving like a bunch of piglets. Once we started picking up after ourselves we stated finding little notes in every room on how to keep it tidy.

  • Great if you can do it, almost back tot he days of the parlour or front room only used for special times. Good on her if she can do this.
